im not being funny but theres more important stuff to sort out in this country before thinking of other places. the only reason africa and those kind of places are in the s**t they are in is because they have relied on handouts for decades.

Before making awful statements like you have above why don't you actually research that what you write is the whole truth and not something you have read in a tabloid rag or overheard down the pub.

What you have written has a tiny element of truth about it but that's about it. Quoting Africa for instance you would need to go way back to the height of the British Empire and forward to the ridiculous loans dished out to certain African countries to be able to comment on the economic problems of those countries.

However Africa is only part of the worldwide water problem, there are many, many other countries spread right around the world where water is a real everyday issue and will become even more so in the future.

To be honest I don't think the petition would actually help the situation as such. What is needed is (IMO) a cheap way to desalinate water and better ways of saving and using the water that we already have.

You can also expect the water issue to get much, much nearer to home if our climate continues in the way it has. It may not be too far in the future before the term "water migrant" becomes commonplace.

Signed it.

I doubt if it will do much good though, because water will soon become a bargaining chip for world governments. The water industries and governments will not do the right thing unless there is money in it for them.

Bit of a uneducated sweeping statement.

Another way to look at it is that countries, particularly the UK, pillaged a lot of the world's poorest countries over the centuries of all of there natural resources and then abandoned them when they had bled them dry. Leaving them in the position of having no natural assets and having to rely on hand outs.

Not your fault or mine, but people in the developed world should help those less fortunate, even if it's just signing a petition.

i didnt speak to anyone in a disgusting manner?! i think you like the other poster should get your facts right the reason i quoted that poster was cos he'd previously called people sad in another thread for not sleeping then they think they know everything about the situation in africa  so you too get your facts rights

Well said, I couldn't agree with you more!

Well no actually lilac we are talking about this thread not another so why bring another thread into another.
And dont speak to me like a dog either.

And yes i totally agree you are entitled to your opinion.
Right or wrong in my view make no difference, i think we should be there to help everyone who needs it.

My point is there is no need to speak to anyone disrespectfully.
I for one think if people respected everyone opinions and spoke to each other with respect, then maybe the world would seem a much better place.
I have learnt so much since being blind and just how discustingly, people tolerate others.
You see much more when you dont see

I apologise if ive offended you lilac ,

no one knows what that petition's gonna do or how its gonna help, whats wrong with being positive and hoping that things get better for the less fortune those without clean water, the thread was made for people to sign a petition not to point out the flaws of africa cos that doesnt help, i never speak to anyone disrespectfully and if you think i did to you thats your own opinion. you should not let your personal feelings about the world and people to judge me when you know nothing about me. thank you

disrepectfull to tell someone to shut up cos a view differs IMO.
I have my veiws of the world yes. Mainly that its a sh** place brought on by the way people treat others.
We are happy to give money to build nice posh stadiums and stuff, while huumans sleep in doorways.
While children starve.
While cancer victims cant have medication cos of the price.
But now im totally going off subject so just ignore me. Not a problem im sure pmsl

It's because Charities are usually run as a business. Working for a charity is a full time job, and yes money does go into admin, but most does go into advertisement so more people can become aware and donate. But money does go to the people they help, every little counts.

if people felt so strongly about the charity why take a wage? why do the MDs of these charities get paid hundreds of thousands of pounds?
there was a study a couple of years ago where it was estimated for every pound that gets donated to charity only 10p reaches its destination.
if people in these situations wont help themselves, why should we? i donated to charity for many years, and i stopped when i finally realised they will continue to take handouts as theres no incentive for them to help themselves.
they would rather have a loaf of bread than a sack of corn to grow and to make in to flour. because they know when they are hungry again they will recieve another loaf of bread.

if you say so. i suppose your one of the sheep following the flock. just continue donating money, in 50 years all those people you thought you were helping will still be in the same position. just look at the last 20 years, nothing has got better, infact its got alot worse despite the trillions of pounds that has gone to 'help'

I totally agree eeze.
