    It doesn't if you are using your Paypal balance, if you are funding it using your credit card you get charged a fee

    its not supposed to, as long as it is ticked as a gift, ebay sales cannot use this though

    Well from my experience when I use my Paypal balance to gift money I get no fee's when I do exactly the same thing but don't have enough £££'s in my Paypal account it charges me as it needs to fund it from my credit card

    only free if using paypal balance or bank transfer.
    If using credit card then there are fees.

    ok thanks ill believe you

    I discovered this last night as well. There is an option to choose whether you the sender wants to pay the fees or the recipient though.

    Oh by the way when I gift someone money but need to fund it from my credit card it comes up with something like;

    This payment will incure a fee of £1.14

    The it has two tick boxes;

    I will pay the fee or Recipient will pay the fee

    So it looks like whoever has gifted you money has funded it from a credit card and decided that you will pay the fee whereas when I do it that way I always pay the fee

    Did you do the deal on here?

    If so give them negative feedback, the idea of paying via paypal gift is to avoid fee's

    the way I see it is the buyer has deliberately clicked recipient will pay the fee's (the default option is "I will pay the fee") so they didn't have to pay them and then not informed you that you will have to pay a fee. As you agreed payment as a "gift" that to me and probably everyone else on here means that you will not have to pay any fee's for it

    Another thing to consider is with paypal gift there is no way of raising a dispute so if the buyer had intended for you to pay the fee's all along he would have been better off sending it as a normal payment, that way you would still have paid the fee but at least have the opportunity to raise a dispute if required

    there is no come backs with a gift payment, dont know if you are aware o that, hence why it cant be used with ebay

    also you can expire the thread yourself, it only takes the op to hit (i believe)in there own thread, where if you arent the op it takes a couple of member
