    i want 2 netbooks for £300

I was looking at the Elonex at Bigpockets, but wondered if anyone knew of anything better.
I aint spending over £300 for the pair and they really need to have XP on em.

Don't buy an elonex they are carp, get a couple of eepc's from ebay & wack xp on them.
You could probably pick up two for about £200 if you keep your eyes peeled late evenings, I love my little eeepc & have even had some of me pc games running on it.

what got me about the elonex was the decent hdd etc.

The elonex specs are rubbish it wouldn't run windows98 let alone xp. Your best bet is a couple of the Acer ones which can be had for around £149 or the asus eepc the Acer netbooks have no panel in the bottom to add ram so you have to strip them all the way down where as the Asus do.

Its a matter of taste the Asus older versions didn't have the 1.6ghz atom so the Asus will be slower unless you get a newer model but that will cost more than you want to spend your best bet is the Acer with linux on they come with 1gb of ram and a 1.6 atom and a 120gb hdd and its a simple process to put XP on them there are loads of good guides on the net with the links to everything you will need.

ive put xp on a couple eee's before, supposedly simple but still a major bloody pain. these are for kids, and i cant be bothered trying to install dodgy xp on them constantly, would rather they were xp licensed so i could create a restore disc and make things easy for myself.
    thanks for info tho

Elonex do both proper netbooks and crippled non-X86 machines, are you talking about ]this one?

could probably get 2 eee 901s for 300.....
they've been going for around 140ish for a while and they're fantastic units.
xp runs really well on them (with an nlited xp anyway.... i can help you nlite if you need it)
and they have the latest intel atom 1.6 processor, 1gb ram and 12/20gb hd space (depending on if windows preinstalled or not.)
My advice is buy the 20gb linux one and install an nlited xp.... well worth it
