ICE Campaign - MESSAGE FROM LANCASHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE

Got this e-mail today and thought I'd share this with members:

    I C E In Case Of Emergency

We all carry our mobile phones with names and numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldnt know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this ICE (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.

The concept of ICE is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name ICE (In Case of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didnt know which number to call.

He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose.

In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialling the number you have stored as ICE. Please forward this.

It wont take too many forwards before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved ones mind at rest.

For more than one contact name, simply enter ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc

This is what my house number is under, Has been for years. Can't remeber who told me to do this though.

Hi - This was put in place after the London Bombings but good reminder.

I had to swap mine so it was just the name ie "I C E Name" otherwise you end up with two numbers in your phone book per person and my phone didn't like it.

Update your phone now not later.

If I ever find a mobile I always look for 'home' then 'mam (mum)' or 'dad' to ring to find the owner.

Good idea to have a number for emergencies so may put one in mine.

Been doing this for years. A very good idea!

:thumbsup:Done that !thanks for reminding me to do this i travel to lots of places and am always on the road:thumbsup:

Did this a few years back. It's a good idea.

The "Please forward this e mail to as many people as possible as this can help in an emergency." sounds very spammy to me?

All you need is a "and it'll bring you luck for the rest of the day" and it'll have it all. I'm sure if this was an official comms from Lancashire fire brigade they would put some posters up and do some adverising on it. Not via chain mail? Or am I just having a cynical Friday?

PS. Please forward my response onto everyone you know so they can flame me!
