    ICS Qualification

    Hello,
Im looking to get myself out of a dead end job and thought about maybe taking up web design as Ive done some web sites in the past. Anyway......... seen that ICS do a web design home learning course for around £500. Any one done or currently doing one of these? Any advise? Are the qualifications recognised by employers?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ryan

Do'nt forget Quidco as well as normally they send out 25 / 25 % Discount vouchers as well - whatever you do, don't pay full price.

I am currently doing a couple of courses with them, but they are BTEC courses.

After speaking with my mate who works in recruitment, he did say that ICS do some really **** courses, so just be careful.

A nationally recognised course would be better!

Non recognised qualifications, terribly structured courses and a total waste of money. Steer clear is my advice.

Thats what im trying to get into. Have a look at the open University. Thats what im doing at the moment and my employer is sponsoring me to do it. Also is your household income is still around £30,000 you can still get a financial reward. Really good im my opinion.

Also, open university are regarded highly,1 as your studying and working at the same time. Which they think is more attractive and shows you can work under stress.

This sounds like you have the basic knowledge already. Have you tried looking for a job in web design yet? Even if you have no formal qualification/s, showing a prospective employer examples of your work will speak volumes for you. (Imagine things from the employer's point of view - "Do I give the job to someone who's qualified but hasn't yet designed a website, or to someone who isn't qualified but has already successfully designed websites?")

Trust in yourself & go for it:thumbsup:

Not sure what the dead end job in question is but if its not in the IT field have a look at some related jobs to web design maybe content administration?

I've found getting your foot in the door opens up so many avenues.

Like cis_groupie says show your work off. Be proud and confident of it, setup some dummy sites to show off your skills and get your CV up on jobsite / jobserve / monster etc and sell yourself to the recruitment agencies - half the battle.

Not sure what professional certifications you can get in web design but dont rule out buying some books and teaching yourself then just paying for an exam, thats the way im studying for Cisco and Microsoft certs

    Good luck

Im doing a full degree so is made up of 9 courses. Mines B44 - Computing and design. Really good at the moment. If your going to do this level 1 course are the easiest then level 3 are the hardest and 60 point courses would take about 16 hours of studying a week, but that really depends on your knowledge and pace. Also how much work you put in yourself!
