just a warning about no blocking the fan and putting laptop on hard surface whilst in operation

Be careful tho... although some laptops can take a pluggable wifi module through the bottom of the case, or installing it underneath the keyboard - they ALL need an antenna which is usually a coil wrapped around the outside of the screen. If your screen doesn't have the antenna, you aren't going to benefit from plugging a wifi module into an available socket.

at a random guess it is the one to the right of that one with the white label, just by judging the picture of a wifi cover on ebay for your laptop, it has a rectangle rubber bit on it.

    ebay item number:390228958359

but again are you positive it doesnt all ready have wireless?

how do i get to that?
bare in mind ive lost a screw for that panel now lol

Found it, under network adapters it says ''realtek RTL8139/810x family fast ethernet NIC''

    Original Poster

    no thats all it says

Then it does not have wifi, that is your ethernet socket the one you found.

that seems like the wireless card as there are 2 antenna's connected to the card, may be its not fitted in properly or its faulty.

why would a ethernet socket require antenna's?

Ah right sorry, I meant in device manager, nothing showing up other than the ethernet, I have not looked at pics. oops.

    curt889

so i need something like this (as someone posted before)

according to the picture you've shown, you already have that.

    whatsThePoint

remove the cover again if you put it back and take the module out, turn … remove the cover again if you put it back and take the module out, turn the pc back on, let it fully boot and turn off again and replace module, it might then detect it as new hardwarewhile its out check to see if it says its a wifi device

    or WLAN

this is the back of the card - says wireless lan card

Just fit it back in and see if it gets recognised otherwise it may be faulty.

so shall i start it back up and see if it works?

Yes, also make sure both antenna's are clipped in on the card.

Also, there should be a switch on your laptop to enable or disable the wireless radio.

It should appear in device manager regardless, but just in case it is hiding where u can't see it, you can check to make sure the wifi switch is on, then see if you can see any networks

    Original Poster

still just the ethernet connection so think the card is faulty, and no wi-lan switch

Actually its unlikely but check your bios to see if the wireless card has been disabled.

yeah as suggested try installing the drivers from the link I gave even though device manager should show the card .

Also try pressing the Fn key and F1

    same thing.

If any of the above doesn't work, your card may be faulty.

Just look for another card with the model MIWLGRL or your laptop model R4622.

    cheers, gunna download it now

As someone said to turn it on and off if you happen to get it working, you will probably have to press the 'fn' key (usually down the bottom left of your keyboard) then while that is pressed look for a small wireless symbol on one of the function keys across the top of your keyboard. press then fn key and this wireless symbol at the same time to turn it on and off.

ive downloaded that software thing but i dont know what to do with it lol, im hopeless with stuff like this haha

open up the zip, go to the drivers folder, and double click RaLink2_RT2560.exe and follow the instructions to install the driver.

once you've installed the drivers, check the device manager again under network adapter's and see if Billionton MIWLGRL is listed.

    no its not

Go to run and type in services.msc, scroll down to Plug and Play and WLAN AutoConfig and see if its started or not.

My last suggestion is check bios to see if WLAN is disabled otherwise its a faulty card.

    thats what im getting again

The card isn't been detected, like I said check bios by pressing either F1, F2 or DEL keys(its 1 of those keys, I don't know which 1) on the packard bell start up screen and check if there are any settings involving the wireless card.

Otherwise you need a replacement card, search for MIWLGRL or your laptop model packard bell R4622 on the auction site.
