If I turn 21 And do my full motorcycle exam to get my licence... would the licence have any restrictions?

I'm 20 in a week, just wondering what's best to do?

If i do my licence now, It's restricted for 2 years.
Should I wait untill I'm 21 to get my licence? or would there be no point because it will be restricted anyway?

    thanks

I would wait you are 21 and do a direct access course so that you can go for bikes over 600cc (or is it 500cc , cant remember I had mine done years ago) straight away, without restrictions

might aswell get one now and get a fake restricted to 33BHP certificate

and thus be unlicenced and uninsured in the event of an accident, not the best of ideas.

If you dont mind being restricted for a while then take your test now, even some of the restricted pocket rockets are nimble speedy little beasts and you will gain experience in the meantime.

You got plenty of time to get the bigger bike, I have been riding for a lot of years and would definetly reccomend that you take the time to get experience.....

 I dont usually bite and get personal but how ignorant of you to even suggest this :x. What if a member of your family had been hit by a rider with no insurance???

That's very true. Do you have a CBT? Have you ever ridden a bike before?

I did a direct access course and jumped straight to a 600cc but had a lot of riding experience before then on smaller bikes.

I planned on getting a Yamaha Fazer (restricted to 33bhp) when I passed, I failed it once in November 2007 because I skidded for about 2 seconds on the emergency stop (pressed back break too hard) and I haven't done it again because of my leg >_>

Is it legal to ride on the rode with an expired cbt and can you take a full test with an expired cbt?

Great, thanks for the advice people! Guess I'll wait till I'm 21 and stick with my bike for now!

    So just to make sure...

When I'm 21 and get my licence... there wont be any 33bhp or 250cc restrictions??

    Direct access

After taking CBT and the theory test, the practical test may be taken on a motorcycle with a power output of at least 35kW. A pass allows you to ride any size of bike. All or part of the CBT course may be taken on either a learner bike or a large bike. You may practice for the practical test on bikes larger than the learner bike specification provided:

    * you are accompanied at all times by an approved instructor on another bike and in radio contact
    * you wear fluorescent or reflective clothing and follow all other provisional licence restrictions

they are so good looking!

biking is great and i love it but imo you need a car too

even if it is a £400 rover diesil

ah you guys are awesome thanks!

Now I have couple of choices! I can either do the A2 exam to get a restriced licence and then do the "accelerated course" to get the full licence...

    OR,

I can just wait 1 year and do the DAS.

The 2nd option sounds cheaper, but the first option will help me build up cheaper insurance (longer held licence plus no claims discount etc)

Which one shall I go for ?

P.S I already passed my theory test.

insurance is cheap compared to a car, my sv650 at 21 was £350 odd i think (no ncb). Depends how much you want it really

That's one of the reasons why - as a student, I decided to be a biker instead of a driver.

Not mentioning all the attention I get from the girls...

BTW, I have left everyone that replied some rep... thanksss

if you do the A2 YOU WILL get bad habits and might find it harder to pass the second part

or just do your A2 any worry about it laters and do a few lessons before your second test

    your choice lol

it's up to you really and your personal circumstances. If you feel 'ready' to ride a bigger bike and can afford the test/changing the bike and all the expenses that goes with it then go for it.

You should do some research first, which bike you are likely to go for and get some insurances quotes....
if you are not financially ready maybe is better to do the restricted and save some cash in the meantime.

I don't actually want a bigger bike anytime soon, I'm happy to stick with my bike for around a year untill I'm legally able to drive something bigger. And money wont be an issue, I know how to save up

The only positive side that I can see for getting A2 now, is that it will look good in future insurance quotes.

Ah yea I guess your right! but even if i don't do the A2 I'll still be riding for the next year to uni & work and bad habbits will come anyway :-D lol!

I'm thinking of just waiting? No rush right?

    Harleys? Noooooooooooooooooooooooo.
You'll spend more time polishing it than riding it, and it won't go round corners.
Get yourself a nice Ducatti instead (ignore the crappy electrics). You can hear them things coming miles away.

Oh yea of course, I'd go for a super sports bike over a harley any day, but I just want to ride a harley just to be in the rider seat for once lol.
