if snow falls from my roof and knocks someone out...

...could i be sued for compensation?

quite a big chunk is overhanging from the gutter. once that goes i expect the whole lot to come down.
in the last years it came down in the middle of the night, you could hear and feel it a big thud and a shake. so it's gonna hurt if you're walking by.

not sure how im gonna get it down though, throw something to try bring it down, but if that does not work then i've disturbed it and will come down sooner.

any advice on this issue?

Yes

Can you be sued? Yes.

Likelihood of success = Negligible. It would be perceived as Force Majeure unless the other party could prove that you contributed to the act with intent.

And if you suspect the overhanging gutter to be a problem and recognise it as a danger and dont do anything about it then they could use that as a starter for ten towards the intent part as you failed to take reasonable measures to make safe a potentially hazardous situation on your property.

If you feel that your health would be in danger if you attempted to make the situation safe then you can at least put up a sign to warn people of that danger.

Irrelevant.

Leave your loft hatch open to allow heat into the loft, this will melt the snow and it will fall off:thinking:

thank you

Just to clarify, it's irrelevant whether the person is on your land or not, the liability exists regardless. In this case, I would say that liability is very limited and it would probably be force majeure in case you were causing it to be worse. It's different to say a poorly kept roof falling onto somebody walking underneath.
