    Ikea-who designed their store layout?

Hate the place-its like a maze with no seeming sense to the layout-and try finding the exit!

It was a Scandinavian guy called Lodda Skipfodder.

a women prolly :whistling: they dont want you to find the exit, they want you to spend as much time as possible in there so you can spend more !

I try and follow the smell of cheap hot dogs and budget fry ups and that usually leads me to NEAR the exit, but not quite. :?

They probably paid someone a fortune to do it, I agree they are all the same ,no logic at all.

    lmfao!

If it was logical and clear you wouldn't come home with half the useless gadgets and shelves you do currently. Personally I think it's very clever, you more or less have to visit every department (several times) to get out.

Research shows that a person's normal 'field of vision' is around 170 degrees. IKEA makes sure that paths through their stores are clearly visible, but that alternative routes through the store are well-hidden from the public. It's very hard to take shortcuts through the store, which the company believes will help them sell you more, as you're much likelier to pick up a lamp or plant pot on impulse if you follow their route.

I hate it so much I will only go if absolutely necessary.

when we go, we go for something specfic, bypass all the other depts we don't need and pick up a hotdog (or 4) on the way out

You can actually kick the walls in and take a short cut

Are you trying to say that things aren't assembled too well there :whistling:

The store layout is designed to make you visit each area of the store to encourage impulse buying. There are actually doorways marked "staff only" which are just doorways which act as short cuts to other areas of the store.

    Wow! Really?

Seriously though, the planning to do this has been well thought out for potential sales purposes, but it is really annoying if you know what you want to buy and just want to dash in,grab it,pay and out again

I based my answer on a Business case study on Ikea I did at university. Last time I checked, the short cut doorways in the Bristol Ikea were marked "staff only" but TBH I haven't been in an Ikea for a few years so they might have changed the way the doors are marked.
