    I'm nervous!

I've got a really important job interview on tuesday morning and I'm sooooooooo nervous already. I'm probably going to be in a right state just before it lol.

But I just wondered if anyone had any proven techniques for getting rid of the whole nerves thing. I'd always suggest a stiff drink but I don't think that would work in this situation!

    Any ideas?????????

    No, lol.

This may sound stupid but you can get this liquid from a chemist where it calms you down and therefore makes you less nervous.

Valium? 10mg of diazapalm will do the trick

They sell alcohol in chemists...?

bachs rescue remedy is good i had a test for work the other day and had to get 100% so was pretty nervous and that helped a bit i used it for my driving test and also for visits to the dentist
    Good luck

Rescue Remedy combines these five Bach Flower Remedies and can be used to help you cope with immediate everyday situations such as going to the dentist, interviews, making a complaint or wedding day nerves. It can also help in times of crisis or trauma such as bereavement, a relationship breakdown or redundancy. Rescue Cream is a general skin salve to sooth and restore. Containing a blend of six flower remedies, it lets you apply cream externally and moisturises rough, dry skin to restore it to its natural good condition. Dilute four drops of Rescue Remedy in a glass of water and sip at intervals. Replenish as neccessary.

For multiple use, add two drops of Rescue Remedy to a 30ml mixing bottle (you may combine up to seven remedies in this bottle), top up with mineral water and take four drops at least four times a day.

If neccessary, the Bach Flower Remedies can be dropped neat onto the tongue, or rubbed onto the lips, behind the ears, or on the temples and wrists.

You can take Bach Flower Remedies as often as you want. If you are in a mood or a bit of a crisis, you only may need one dose, but if you've been feeling the same way for some time you can take them as long as you need to."

    Handy hints-

1- The interviewers will be nervous as well, probably.
2-They will also be bored. I have interviewed people for jobs in the past & it is the most boring thing to have to do. So, without being outrageous, try to be unique & show your personal & professional qualities.
    and one more...
3-When you are sat in front of them, just remember, they are only human and when they go the toilet, they use the same methods as you for bodily waste disposal, if you know what I mean.

Relax & good luck, you will be fine.

Has used it for flying, not literally, and general stress, possibly living with me,says it seems to work, got it from Boots.[/QU

did you miss out the y there i was wondering how she used it for fling lol:giggle:

If it helps at all, i've interviewed people in the past and most of them were nervous at the start, Quite often the interviewer is under as much pressure as the interviewee - after all, their head could be on the line if they pick the wrong person! Any normal interviewer would try to put you at ease so they can see the true you.
I'm sure you'll be fine, just go in and knock em dead (if they don't give you it:p)
    Good luck x

I have interviewed before and im just as nervous as i would be getting interviewed

Thanks people! I'd never have thought that interviewers would be nervous! But yeah I guess they are human beings too!

I think for most people it's difficult not to be nervous especially when you're just starting out and you really want the job. My perhaps rather defeatist approach is simply that I know I will be nervous but once the interview gets going I just focus on what's being asked and usually the nerves go into the background. I've had quite a bit of good feedback from interviews and its pretty consistent, the interviewers notice I'm nervous starting off (I'm bad at visibly showing this by moving my hands) but once the interview moves into the technical questions that goes away and they could see I was confident in my technical abilities.

I also find being honest is a good approach, one company in particular didn't like people who tried to 'make up' answers to questions they didn't know. I have a good idea of what my weaknesses are which I don't hide from as no-one is perfect, when that aspect comes into the conversation I try to detail what I've done to try and improve those weaknesses.

One particularly gruelling IT interview I went for had five A4 pages solid of technical questions, many general questions on the current state of IT and to finish it they wanted a PC built. Now you'd think the latter would be a complete breeze and it's something I can normally do in minutes but in the middle of interview with a less than steady hand it was trickier than expected.

Good luck with the job interview and don't be too let down if you don't get the position, I can't even take that last part of the advice myself but I do know how frustrating it can be not to get a position you think you can do well and really want.

    John

They obviously think you've got the right qualifications/training otherwise you wouldn't have got an interview. They want to see your personality now.
If you really want it, they'll see it.
(just don't look too desparate lol)
    Good Luck:thumbsup:

I remember someone else mentioning that once. Its really good advice I think and I'm going to try and remember that during the day! Thanks

As previously mentioned interviewers are nervous as well. I know that whenever I interview people I'm not put off by them being a little nervous, after all it's quite natural. Just try to relax and be yourself. Good luck and let us now how you get on.

    good luck!!

Body language is important too, don't go in there with a defeated attitude.
Chin up, shoulders back and in you go.
Introduce yourself and shake hands. Don't take a seat unless your asked to.
Once sat try to keep your composure, don't cross your arms and fiddle with your fingers.
Answer questions confidently and keep eye contact -but don't stare.
I know a girl who didn't get a job because throughout the interview she was looking around the room and giving very little eye contact, making them think she was bored and didn't want to be there!!!
Most people are nervous on interviews - even if they've had alot of them! Most people will start to relax and forget about their nerves after the first few minutes anyway.
I know someone who used to take Beta - Blockers during her exams to cure her nerves, but it's up to your doctor whether he wants to give them you!
Be confident - but not over confident!
It'll be over before you know and you'll be wondering why you fussed over it so much!

Whats the job? As hopefully I am going to be applying for graduate IT jobs!!

Let me know how it goes???

    Oh yeah and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Its for IBM, really good job and I really really really want it! I think thats what making it all worse lol!

take a deep breath and be yourself ive had a few interviews recently for promotions and there is no use or you will be no use to anyone as a gibbering wreck....but i certainly dont agree with pumping yourself full of remedys and chemicals....just pull yourself together and be confident you obviously can do the job.

This is another example of the modern society...im 22 not really old but id never dream of taking anything to calm me down....just have stern words with yourself. people 40-50 years ago didnt have anything to take......

I totally agree with you, all my mates taking stuff just when they get tired etc. I always like to take the natural approach lol, but was just interested what other people do.

Thanks for the advice though, I'm feeling very confident!

Just read up on the information that you should know and write some questions down which relate to the job and just make sure you know what you are talking about!!

Go on IBM thats well good!! Is it as a IT consultant? Or software developer?

Yeah, don't fill yourself with rubbish, especially if you've never taken it before (after all, you don't know what allergic reactions you could have etc).

Just let us all wish you good luck... hope you get the job!!

Me too! I shall invite you all to a party if I do!!!! hehe

Prepare yourself well. That way you will feel more confident and less neverous.

    Things you should do:

-Research the company. Find out when they were founded, what exactly they do, all the different departments ect.(this can usually be done will a quick google search)

-Write down a list of questions you expect them to ask you and practice answering them

-Make sure you look smart. Shoes polished, clothes ironed, hair tidy. And also make sure you smell nice.

-And when in the interview, try and act relaxed.

Good luck, i hope you get the job:thumbsup:
