    Imperial War Museum North

Hi all. Going here today as my nine year old loves this sort of thing. Grandma has been here this week and he has had to put up with lots of girlie shopping. She has gone home now so doing something for him as he was so good. Has anybody been? Is it worth the visit?

    Kids activity today is:

    Little Big Picture

    Saturday 9 August 11.00 - 4.00
    Suitable for ages 7+

Bring your drawings, cartoons and artwork to life using basic animation techniques.

In partnership with Workers' Film Association.

I'm sure he'll have loads of fun

I remember it being free to get in but with paid parking outside and the opportunity to cross a footbridge to the Lowry which has a small outlet mall. Depends how much you like the architecture.
The museum is not for the lots of the hardware of war. It changes the audio visual stuff regularly. I hope you can still go up the observation tower. Probably worth 3 hours for a first visit.

Did you go, to any of the above?

    I did.

Thought the hourly shows were good and the Horrible Histories display on WW1 was good. Overall slightly disappointed though. At Easter we went down to RAF Cosford and that was so much better in comparison. Still had personal information from people but with the bonus of much more hands on stuff.

I did go to the top of the tower.. and had a major freak out. Heights don't normally bother me but didn't like seeing the bottom floor god knows how far below me. Crunch time came when we went to go back down the gantry to the lift. Almost took the stairs rather than crossing back over that. Had to take the OH hand and close eyes to manage it.

Drove across the road to old Trafford for a quick look. My son soooooo wasn't impressed!

Loved the design of the IWM by the way (obviously apart from the floor of the tower). When they get finished with the Quays its going to be some sight

I guess, he isn't a Manchester United fan then, glad you enjoyed some of it.
