Import duty on a warranty return?

4
Found 20th Jan 2014
I have a warranty replacement arriving soon from Singapore. I have already paid duty and the handling fee on the original item, but I am worried I will be charged again when the warranty replacement arrives.
Has anyone any experience or advice on an international warranty return.

No duty and VAT will be payable if the goods have been repaired free of charge and you can provide a copy of the guarantee/warranty agreement to your shipping provider for presentation to customs.

If you have to pay for the repair, duty and VAT will be charged on the repair costs only.

If the goods have been replaced free of charge under guarantee or warranty, no duty is payable. However, VAT is payable on the full value of the goods because all replacement items are treated as new goods for VAT purposes
I have just had a bill from Royal Mail for this exact thing, a phone case sent as a replacement from the USA, they want £11 odd import duty.

That's what I thought, really annoying as I paid duty and handling on a faulty item that is basically worthless. And now I suppose they will charge me again so I will end up paying twice.

Thanks for your reply.
