In need of a wee bit of help... :(

I started my new job about 2 weeks back, i loved the first 10 shifts but the last 2 i've hated!
I don't know whether to complain about a few members of staff as...

    1) he's a manager i asked for help concerning a customer who has a nut allergy, I don't know which products are suitable so he rudely said to me that a piece of paper has the nutritional information. The piece of paper DOESN'T have the nutritional information on the product my customer wanted...

    2) A young girl (16ish) came in and asked for an application form, to which i didn't know where they were kept or how to get one for her, so i asked another member of staff... Some girl that was working in our store as we hadnt got enough staff rudely said to the girl that we don't have any application forms and she has to apply online... which is a lie! as I applied by filling in an application form 3 weeks ago!!!

2b) The member of staff from the other store used my till when the company has a policy of 'closed tills' so she shouldn't have used my till!

2c) The girl kept yelling at me for doing mistakes, even-though she ignored me when i tried to explain to her MANY times what my customer wanted!

2d) She also kept arguing with me and just general inappropriate remarks like asking if I have sex with my bf, I don't believe this is okay to ask someone let alone in front of customers... especially as she wants to be a manager soon!

    3) I was filling up a shelf, and could see a reflection of a member of staff pushing me... to which herself and the aforementioned girl was laughing at...

so, do you think i should complain about these members of staff or just take it as being a 'new member of staff' ... i really don't know what to do!

yeah thats a bit out of line.

But maybe first speak to the people who are acting like this and ask nicely if they could stop it and say you dont find questions about sex with your bf appropriate

it's a fast food restaurant... I'm only there as I need the money and one of the many managers lives over the road from me!

makes me think more... if i spoke to the manager that hates the girl he's leaving soon so it might be a good place to start! He scares me but seems really nice! (Just bit of an essex boy!)

uhuh, i had pratts where i used to work, but that didn't bug me as much as this has... as the peanut allergy could in theory have killed the girl! and for it to be a manager to not care really really bugged me!!!

Personally, I'd report all the issues to senior management, and keep a comprehensive log of everything you find offensive, and everything you do to counter it. If management don't resolve the situation within a month, I'd drop an email to Generic Local No-Win-No-Fee lawyers and try and sue them for harassment. You don't deserve that sort of nonsence, and it's a neat way to make a quick few hundred squid whilst you look for another job.

Just for a different take on it... I wouldn't complain, not for the length of time you have been there or the seriousness of their crimes as although rude, not really a cause that management are likely to take up. Just dont act like a doormat and they wont treat you as one. Just tell them what you think. Like when you seen the reflection you should have turned round and asked if they had a problem. May alienate you from some but if that's how they behave, do you really care?

complain, most of what you've said (especially 2c, 2d and 3) are bullying, pure and simple, although you may not get much joy from it since they'll probably just get a slap on the wrist and carry on regardless.

Best advise, from someone who was bullied at school and wishes he'd done this at the time, is to stand up for yourself, that doesn't mean getting angry or retaliating when you're pushed (like in no.3), it just means being more confident and not letting them see it bothers you, if it gets worse confront them about it, if they see you're assertive and aren't going to just take it, theres less 'fun' in it for them.

I carried on with what i was doing and said "I can see you in the reflection" silly girls.
I do care in a way, as i don't think they should behave like that to anyone new or old, it was stupid. I was just unfortunate to be the only other girl working as the other female employee who couldn't stand them left 2 or 3 hours earlier (her shift finished) so I know I'm not being silly as many of the others hated the girl from the other store! I'll probably just end up speaking to one of the managers but not in a formal sense just to let them know what happened... i don't like conflict...

Sounds a lot like Pizza Hut where I used to work.

I think I will start to make a note of everything, small to major, just to let the managers know how the staff behave. Like I believe that the staff should go out of their way to help the newer staff (I even go out of my way to help the staff newer than me!) I'll probably not do the claiming money thing as i'm not like that  but I believe I have a fair reason to claim! thanks for the suggestion though

Yeah, that's what i was thinking, the managers might not be able to do anything as she's from a different store! and it could result in the girl from my store behaving worse to me! :x

I had quite a bit of hassle at school too, which is probably why i'm unsure about what to do now! I'll probably just carry on taking it from them but ignore the comments which in theory they should stop if they don't get a reaction from me... I hope so at least.

Oh yeah! My friend has the same name as you! :-D

    Pm'ed you!

god i wouldn't take that - counts as bullying in the workplace if you ask me. Don't suffer in silence!

    haha! that's really strange!
 is that better? (now it's 1667?!)
The only reason I have the job is for the money (to pay my rent while I'm not living there!!) grr.

The main bit of advice I would say is keep a record of everything and don't try to speak to them yourself and write a formal letter to management, naming the incidents with dates etc. They are then obliged to offer you a response and deal with the issue and they can also take the members of staff to one side and talk to them about conduct without mentioning actual names or incidents unless it is necessary. I was bullid in the colege where I worked and tried dealing with it by myself until it nearly drove me mad. Got to a point where I was being sick every morning, ruined my marriage, I was contemplating suicide and I ended up too weak to keep fighting it through court so I gave in after a couple of years. I still recommend fighting bullies but I know better know how I should have dealt with it and that was involving management and keeping them informed instead of trying to do it myself. Good luck!

Give as good as you get, dont let them walk over you or they will think they can do it all the time.

I didn't realize that they could speak without naming names, which is pretty good. I'm always concerned that it would get worse if you speak to management about stuff and it being revealed. Or the person working out who complained... Its a shame that you got too ill but good that your partner stuck by you, some wouldn't! thanks for your help!

Very commendable that you're thinking of how this effects people in general and not just yourself. Maybe you could pull her to the side when she doesn't have an audience and talk to her one on one. What about getting someone you know to complain and say they were the customer who overheard her commenting on your sex life?

Hope you get it sorted soon but don't let it lie. Every company should have someone like you on their staff.
