loved it-went to see it in a tiny cinema in saint andrews a coupla weeks back-the problem is,its impossible to discuss in a thread without spoiling it for anyone who hasnt seen it cos its all about the way it ends isnt it? everyone has their own theory of course but its the big "sixth sense" style moment and hard to ask for others opinion unless anyone who hasnt watched yet stays outta the thread.

Might wanna put spoilers, just in case.
But yeah its a GREAT film.

yeh the ending is sooooo good, this will go down as one of the best films ever made

ok-since you have put spoiler in the title.... maybe Im just being totally simplistic about this, but he had been on the run for years had he not? in real time, not dream time, that is,and yet at the end his children were still the same age as they were when he remembered them.

so therefore the whole thing was a dream? or not?

MIND = BLOWN

I never thought of it like that!

Who knows if it was a dream or not because we didn't see if the spinning top carried on spinning of if it was just about to drop

lol-Im not saying Im right m8,but I wondered whether people were just totally concentrating on whether the top would stop or not and completely missed the simple fact that the kids hadnt got any older.

the total film review says you should deffo see it more than once, and also that you need to watch it a second time and concentrate really hard when the girl is getting the tutorials at the start because there are some VITAL facts mentioned there which can be missed.

they say the clues are there, but nobody will spot them on one watch.

In real time he hadn't spent that long away from the children, in his mind through all the time spent in differing levels of dreams he'd spent many lifetimes away from them. At least that's one way of looking at it...

"We all remain mystified by the ending of Christopher Nolan's Inception. It's the kind of mind-frak most directors only wish they could pull off. But did the movie's costume designer just give away the secret of what really happens? Spoilers!

New York Magazine's Vulture blog noticed this telltale exchange in an interview with costume designer Jeffrey Kurland:

How much does costume reflect the inner machinations of the plot, particularly in a film such as Inception? For example, Cobb's children are wearing the same clothes at the end of the story as they are in his dream 'memory' throughout the film. Is there something to be interpreted here?

Costume design reflects greatly on the movement of the plot, most significantly through character development. Character development is at the forefront of costume design. The characters move the story along and with the director and the actor the costume designer helps to set the film's emotional tone in a visual way. In a more physical sense the costumes' style and color help to keep the story on track, keeping a check on time and place.

On to the second part of your question, the children's clothing is different in the final scene … look again …

So the children are finally wearing different clothing when we see them in the "real" world. And Vulture points out that they're also played by older actors than they are in other scenes. And actor Dileep Rao also told Vulture, in another interview, that at the very end Dom Cobb's top is supposed to sound as though it's wobbling and about to fall. So is Cobb really awake after all? It sounds like it... for now, at least. We'll have to re-watch the movie another half dozen times to be sure.

Oh, and the whole costume designer interview is worth checking out, to see how much thought went into all of those amazing outfits."

The ending isnt a dream in my opinion

This is because in all the dream sequences with his wife (MAL) and his kids leo is wearing a wedding ring

In all real world sequences including the end he is not

such a talking point the ending is, % on a chance of Inception II?

Fell asleep after 20 mins watching it.

Woke up near the end, not sure what story was about, but then again, I'm not so sure others who have watched in full are any better off.

cant see a sequel m8-not that christopher nolan would have anything to do with anyway-I think he knows he has created something unique here-pretty sure he will leave it at that.

dont imagine many other directors lining up for it either-how can you top the original?

in most cases money talks, but I dont think that applies this time.

The children are definitely wearing slightly different clothes at the end, the boy's shoes are more obvious but the age is less certain - although IMDB lists two ages this may refer to the ones that speak on the phone which do sound older which would mean both the kids in his memory and those at the end could be the same actor/actress as they certainly look similar age wise.

It is of course deliberately ambiguous with clues to suggest it's a dream and some to suggest it's reality but no concrete proof for either - more simply though Cobb, who has shown to be paranoid about dream and reality no longer cares, hence he leaves the totem spinning and walks away without watching what it does.

Collegehumour have released an extended ending:

And Ariadne doesn't understand the film:

Just got round to watching this. What an amazing film.

In my mind the top stopped spinning and all was well with the world. I liked the fact that it was left open though

Great isnt it, watched it three times now

The last few minutes of the film are amazing. The song playing is perfect and builds the atmosphere. I keep listing to the song I think it's called time.

It is called 'Time' and it's a great soundtrack although I'm disappointed they haven't released an extended soundtrack with the release of the film on blu-ray/DVD as the original is missing some tracks.

John

The spinning top was definitely beginning to wobble oO

or it was a continuity error and laziness of the director!

Only thing I was struggling with was how did Cobb and Saito get back from limbo to the plane.

They made a big fuss when they got into dream 1 about how limbo could be infinite etc. but Cobb had already been in (and out of) limbo. Getting out by killing himself on the train tracks. Presumably Cobb and Saito killed themselves in the palace at the end/beginning and came back to reality (or not) on the plane, so why the big fuss about limbo in the first place?
