I don't quite understand that mate?

And do you have the phone?

isnt a initial charge for ANY new phone 16 hours?

when I got mine before changing it for the LG Optimus X2 I charged mine overnight. It still eat the battery within about 8-10 hours from fully charged.

No, simply not necessary for Li-Po batteries. Charge it till it says charged (likely under 2 hours), then if you want you can keep it plugged in and use it to trickle charge it, but its not necessary and won't impact on the battery life.

What I meant was, the shop and manual giving differing info, I would charge it overnight, whilst switched off to be safe and I have the galaxy s

Why don't you just read the manual like most people would do?

The manual doesn't tell you how long to charge it for, I am also curious how long charge the SGS2 for the first time. Can't find any threads anywhere relating to this.

Its pretty much up to you i would say, i used my fone right out of the box and it lasted about 4 years, then i charged it until it said 100% - that took about 3 hours. Today im testing how long the battery lasts when the phone is not used much, so far i've had it on since 1pm, and its on 93%. But just charge it overnight most of the time to be sure... and to prolong battery life, download "advanced task killer" from the market, its free, its better than the basic one that comes with the phone. the display uses up most of the battery life, so it want a live wallpaper, be prepared to pay for it with the battery.. lowering brightness helps, and switching off wi-fi when not in use etc.

"The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid frequent full discharges and charge more often between uses. If full discharges cannot be avoided, try utilizing a larger battery. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery."

That's not right, it should power up when plugged into the mains, even if the battery is flat.

Are you sure the battery is even IN the phone? You have checked haven't you?
