installed Windows 7 and computer speakers wont work

After installing Windows 7 on my desktop PC, I've downloaded Realtek HD latest drivers and speakers work ok on tests via Windows Media Centre and Realtek Audio Manager but will not play in windows media player or itunes?

    Any ideas?

tried clicking on the speaker on the bottom right hand corner and clicking playback devices and selecting your speakers?

I avoided the realtek driver updates. Tried the LAN one and my internet stopped working until I reversed it!
