Installing Direct X 8.1 on Windows Vista??

    Direct X 8.1 is a REALLY old release, 2002 I think.

If you are on Vista you are on Direct X 10.

As far as I know Direct X is upward compatible, so anything 8.1 can do then later versions can do.

Thanks, i was just looking at Wikipedia actually and noticed that 8.1 seems to be for XP not Vista.

Not quite, DirectX 10 and DirectX 9 are seperate. However, the DX9 installed on vista will allow you to run games written for older versions of directX, including 8.1, so you don't need to install the version the game comes with.
