    insurance question

After an incident with some local kids, the police were called and the officer told me that my car wasn't insured.

I paid for the insurance on Monday and have all the documents so I am safe but how long is reasonable to expect my insurer to update the police database that the car is insured?

The deposit was taken and got all my documents but I am just worried incase I do get pulled over by the police.

I was expecting it to be updated on the police database within 48 hours but should it take longer?

    Cheers in advance

As I wasn't driving the car and only bought this week, he said it might take a few days to update. I did offer to show the documents but he said not to worry but need to sort the insurance out.

is it possible you put 1 digit wrong for the number plate for example SD34 HJK instead of SD43 HJK.

its a strange one sure enough.

Nope, double checked the documents, it's all right. It's going to be a long night for me. (I can't sleep when I worry about something).

It is just Tesco being slow to inform the MID, don't worry about it.

That's what I was thinking but been nearly 7 days, obviously shouldn't take that long, and from the police's point of view, I have been driving around uninsured. My first car and my first piece of hassle.

You haven't been driving " uninsured " you just chose an insurer that is very slow to sort things out.

    Stop worrying.

I know I am insured but the police don't know that, hence my worrying. If I get stopped it's a lot of hassle to prove I am insured.

It takes upto 7 days for the database to be updated (according to the email i had from my insurer) and it was around the 7th day that my insurance showed up.

Just make sure you keep your documents with you in the car ,then if you do get pulled by the police then you have proof of insurance in black and white !!......and just keep ckecking the database over the next few days .

You are insured. the documents that you have are the ruling factor regardless.

As replies have stated, it does take some time for the database to be updated with your insurance details. If you have real concerns then give Tesco a call and ask to speak to someone from their specialist or complaints team as the customer services agents probably arent geared for the kind of questioning related to registration on the national database other than the standard time it takes.

    whats that all about then?

my dad got stopped by the police and was told he had no insurance he knew he did and the police spoke to his insurance company and they confirmed he was insured with them it just wasnt showing on the data base the police were using - didnt say why! It now is though as my dad made a bit of a fuss

kids messing around near the car

Just spoke to Tesco and they said it should have been on the system within 48 hours, so have passed this onto the Tech support who are going to query it with the MIB (not men in black).
