I did a crash course in blackpool cost around £400 for 3 x 8 hour days shared with another learner, an hour on and an hour off with a test at the end. I learnt alot with the bulk lessons but the test was a nightmare, the tester took me to an area I hadn't been in all week and I blew it a roundabout, a lorry indicated to turn off and never I pulled out and braked in time but the tester also breaked so FAIL.

Came home to bolton had one hour before my test in familiar surroundings and passed easily. My advice if your doing a crash course do it locally, I think spreading them out over months is a waste of time and money if you have the cash to do them in one go, go for it.

then u are driving illegally?!! LOL

You can drive a car legally with a provisional license as long as you are accompanied by a driver with a full license and you have insurance.

I used to work in the office of a driving school and while we were prepared to do them, we usually advised against them. When I was learning, I would be switching off near the end of a double lesson (1hr 40 mins) and would stop taking stuff in. I can't imagine that 6-8 hours a day for a week can ever be a particularly good way to learn, but I guess it'll do if you're in a rush. As far as guaranteed passes, they are a little misleading. They'll guarantee to keep taking you to test until you pass, but NO driving school can actually guarantee a pass unless they had an arrangement with a hooky examiner lol!

i actually work for a driving school so thought id add my input.

intensive courses are good if your in a hurry but make sure that the instructor and school you use are experienced in passing pupils who have done intensive courses.

also ask the instructor for their pass rate and what grade instructor they are, will give you a good indication of their standard of teaching.

    Grade 4 means average
    Grade 5 means high standard
    Grade 6 is exceptional

if you want a grade 6 instructor however remember that the price reflects the grade,

end of the day it depends on how easily you pick it up, you could always book your test in two weeks time, do a whole block of lessons then 3 days before your test if you think youre not ready you can cancel it.

all the best and good luck!!

I'm confused, the way you have typed that sounds as if your mum isnt in the car with you = illegally. but your saying she is in the car with u when u drive?

Thing is, we used to find fairly often that the results of a check test didn't necessarily reflect the pass rate of an instructor! I wouldn't say it's the best reflection of how good an instructor is tbh. We used to have one excellent instructor for instance who would take on a lot of last minute tests (from another instructor or even another school, often giving us 2-3 days tops to assess them and teach them before test), and so his pass rate was lower than it really should have been...

I know where your coming from, just gave the information as a guidance,

a lot of driving instructors pride themselves on their pass rates and theres obviously a good reason for them to do so. (higher the pass rate = more people pass rather than fail).

you can never guarantee the level of a teaching from an instructor (unless their a grade 6, top 7% of the country) but they obviously charge a lot for their services.

also try asking for some recommendations from people you know who have passed in your local area, every little helps.

end of the day, luck is 70% of choosing the right instructor but you can always just ask for a trial period of say a 2hr lesson just to get the feel for the car and the way the instructor teaches. if you get on with your instructor and you understand the way he/she teaches then your 90% of the way there.

    good luck again.
