My internet connection is seriously slow and keeps losing connection all together, does it with all the computers in the house so not the computers problem.
Im meant to be on the XL Virgin Media tariff so the internet connection is meant to be pretty good however just done a speedtest and its coming up as DL 1.49 and UL 0.06. Im not a computer person but something must be seriously wrong!
Please can someone help me, this is so annoying. Already tried restarting the router etc, doesnt help at all.
Rep for any help...thanks....

Have you ruled out one of the computers being used to download lots of stuff & virgin throttling your speed limit due to illegal downloading of films/music?

Edit: I've found speed test to be quite random with their results, sometimes showing large differences in tests that were run minutes apart.

ermmmm nope....didnt know we had download limits but regardless to my knowledge there is no extreme downloading going on. I called Virgin a few weeks ago asking what was up and they assured me it wasnt their fault, wouldnt they have mentioned this at the time? Surely they cant cap my useage without telling me?

ill do another test now...

Is your network wired or wireless? Is the firmware on your router up-to-date?

Is it happening all the time or just tonight? I had the same problem last night but it turned out to be Virgin doing some upgrades in the Portsmouth area. 1st problem i have had in 2 years.

result of test 2.... DL 1.31 and UL 0.07 :?

It's not an issue with the TV & Internet sharing the same connection?

all the time. When I gave them a ring the other week I complained about my TV service also, which freezes all the time and every morning sticks at 6.06am so I have to restart the box. They blamed this on work, that was happening at the other side of the city, I live in Leeds, isnt as though im out in the wilderness somewhere too...

Aren't Virgin renowned for capping at certain times of the day and for heavy downloaders? Could it be this?

Hon, give Virgin a call and see if it's down to anything they are doing, maybe they can try and boost your signal.. you may be just a distance away from things.

Good luck sweetie, I know it can be maddening x x

gave them a ring a couple of weeks ago and (after suggesting I was wrong and my internet was working perfectly) they suggested it was due to work at the other side of leeds....sounded like a lame excuse to me...ill get a workman out and make them see...
