Internet problem

I was at my brothers house over the weekend, playing about with his pc and doing updates however when doing the updates the downloads froze.

now i don't know if it is because of the above why he has no internet connection now.

one of the updates was for the ethernet card. think it installed properlu but not 100% sure.

he's on NTL cable something or other and it says unable to renew ip address, could not connect to dhcp.

system restore wasn't set up on his pc so can't do that, and when trying to uninstall and re-install it it gives the same message.

sorry if this message is a bit confusing to read, will be because of how i've typed it (hungover - 2 nights worth of alcohol in Yarm)

Go into device manager and see if there are any question marks. uninstall the network card and then reboot. Then re-install the network card drivers.

Have you tried rebooting the Modem? (Switch off for about 15 seconds then back on again?)

i've passed on the info, and awaiting to see if he's sorted it... semi guilty for doing it, but kind of blame his pc too. if it hadn't of froze it would be up to date...

still haven't had any joy with this as yet. tried ipconfig /renew to try and sort the ip probelm out but the computer said no, when trying to do this, tried a driver roll back on the ethernet card, that didn't sort it, tried uninstalling the driver, also didn't solve the problem. reinstalling the ntl modem won't let you get past a certain point. tried another cmd prompt from the ntl site and also tried unplugging the modem leaving it for a while then rebooting to no avail.

theres one tech number which begins with 0845 but when you ring it, it says to ring this other number which is 09 and for some reason my brother can't ring that number...

could be a phobia but i doubt it :giggle:

any help or free ntl/virgin tech numbers?
