I'm with AOL...have been since we first got a computer. Ours is really bad lately....thinking of changing too.

    My God
    AOL
What do you expect they are crap !!!

i am with talktlalk there technical support team run various checks, they said if the adsl light is solid lit then no problem with the line, however ive tried 3 different modems from different manufactures , still disconnects and most odf the time the adsl light is lit up, thinking of switching broadband to ...dunno

if it's dissconnecting a lot it could be a bad line, do you have any noise on your telephone line, crackling, clicking etc?

Can highly reccomend o2 if you can get it.
Bt told me my line was only capable of 6 Mbps but went to o2 and have now been with them over 9 months and get 12 Mbps and have never let me down.
If you have an o2 phone its costs as little as £10 a month for an upto 20 mbps connection with unlimited download

yes we have crackling but wasnt sure if it was just the new phones we bought. They are bt phones and had good review etc though

I have aol and was having problems recently, the dsl light flickering and disconnections, then the phone line started to crackle-bt said the line was ok. Rang aol and they couldn't have been more helpful, in fact they said the problem was woth the line. 2 days later the line was dead! bt's test said the line was still fine. I booked an engineer who said it was a miracle I even got on the net! all the external wiring was replaced. (touch wood) all ok now.

get rid of AOL they are awfull. you may think theyve always been ok but trust me switch provider then tell me that?

i got rid of AOL years ago and im so glad i did.

Lol at anyone still on AOL the worse service provider ever...!!!!

Switching providers will solve nothing if a fault on the line exists, which is quite probable if the line is crackling, locate your socket that looks like this:

    Remove the faceplate like this:

Plug your phone into the test socket, does the crackling still exist?

I'm with be and just get 18/19 Meg. Rubbish. I pay for 24.

Oh wait wut? Epic porn downloadathon on the eay

I'm with o2 and they are a bloody nightmare, we're on router number 2, still waiting to find out why we drop the net after 2pm, after 6pm its so slow 99% of pages timeout, emailed them 18 screen shots of my speed of a big fat zero! and they close the file!
I did their customer service survey over the phone 2 nights ago and a manager was on the phone to me today promising to sort it all out... yeah right! cant wait to leave them. its odd but the minute the free trail ended we started having problem, nothing wrong with the phone line or broadband line, BT tested both

if your with talktalk, the talktalk forum members are very helpful and the OCE's will sort out the disconnection problems by changing profile settings on their side or settings on your router.

AOL are always at the bottom of the list in the Which surveys for connection and customer service. Time to move I think. I've been with orange (was freeserve/wanadoo) etc for many years and they've been ok though O2 are a bit cheaper.

Orange Wednesdays is a bonus if you go to the cinema a lot though.

I'm with O2.. The speed is supposed to be 20Mbps but is around 15. Still happy with the service as is always on.

Dial 17070 on your landline (Free)... listen to the "This circuit is defined as" message and pick quiet line test. Then listen for crackles.

Just done it here fine. Is your landline with an non-BT supplier too?

Should say "This circuit is defined as: xxxxx xxxxxx. BT Line Test Facility. Press 1 for Ringback, 2 for quiet line...."

    and you want 2 :P

But maybe it doesn't work if you're not on BT.

with talktalk, and no other options just disconnects.

I'm with talktalk and have never had any broadband problems. Once we had crackling on the phone which got progressively worse until the broadband couldn't connect at all and phone calls were impossible for the noise. Talktalk sent BT out (after telling me they would charge me if it was my equipment - but I tried a mutlitude of phones!) and they found that the cable coming from the pole in the street was trapped in the door of the box and had almost rusted right through. They fixed in there and then and it's all good now.

they told me the same thing, talktalk said if bt dont find a fault with the outside line they will charge me £75 for a replacement, but the engineer talktalk sent down to my house said theres no issues currently but he also said the outside line is ancient and asked when was it changed, told him its been there ever since we moved in which was like 18 years ago, he said he couldn't do nothing until he can prove a fault

    From the talktalk forum...

    Locked.

At present there are no plans to impliment a quiet line option on the 17070 service. if you dial a '0' (or any other number) your line will go quiet for a short period.
