This might get a tad chilly...

One of the most ill conceived ideas ever ........................ wtf would anyone want with one of these things!

Original Poster

Yeah I was posting this for people who might want to get one on Friday, not for peoples opinions on whether they like the iPad or not.

So why post it in Hot deals?

This will get cold - plus you'll get people moaning about the price, because their pocket money doesn't stretch to an iPad, therefore it's 'too expensive'.

thanks i think its good to let others know if you cannot get it on pre order then you can here WHICH makes me feel its HOT as you can GET IT !!! and for the price launched not some over stated price on FleeBay!!

I still think this will not do too well, people will sell it off cheaper as it did not hit their expectations and get rid of them slightly cheaper.

apple products always hold a high value , so doubt people will loose anything .. ipad's if get sold out will demand a premium .

Its not my cup of tea , i still want a m15x alienware , but the spec i require i dont feel comfortable paying

Oh dear. I have an iphone and it's great. I've also had several Apple computers over a ten year period. So I certainly don't hate Apple.

You will find that people will 'moan about the price' and say that it's 'too expensive' because it's not actually worth the money and is too expensive for what it is and what it does.

Everything is subjective, but essentially what Apple are selling here for a minimum of £429 is a touch screen web browser. It doesn't have as much functionality as most of the considerably cheaper netbooks that Steve Jobs criticised in his ipad keynote.

Perhaps I shouldn't have taken the bait, but it irks me when Apple enthusiasts try to defend what is an insultingly expensive product.

Yep, just like every other Apple product (good though some may be). You have to wonder about how they manage to 'control' retail prices without falling foul of consumer legislation too.

1 million sold in the first 28 days (dailymail.co.uk/sci…tml) and 200,000+ sales per week (telegraph.co.uk/tec…tml) says you're wrong :whistling:

Just because you don't get it doesn't mean it's a bad idea

If you're going to contradict yourself, at least try and space out the contradictory statements.

Obviously, enough people think it is worth the money for it to sell so well - so it isn't 'too expensive', unless it costs more money than you have in your purse.

Not contradictory at all. That's why there is a comma after the 'everything is subjective, but...' statement.

If you continue to read the post, you'll learn why I feel that the item is not worth the money, using my own subjective point of view.

Not that I actually need to justify myself, but if I were earning 100k a year, I'd still not buy an ipad. It's my perception of value that would limit me from doing so, rather than it costing 'more money than I have in my purse'.

I want the ]Lenovo Ideapad U1. A notebook with a screen that doubles as a clever tablet. Now that I do get.

supermod

Moved to MISC as its info rather than a deal & it was getting a little chilly, thanks.

He should have rephrased his comment to "WTF would I want one? I don't but seemingly plenty do".

That's the problem with these people, they can't see beyond their own needs so if it doesn't meet them then the product is crap? There are lots of products I have no need for, like this iPad for example, but I think it will be a great product for those that do want one.

Consumer choice is the important thing. Yes X product may offer more functionality out the box but maybe, just maybe, that's not what people are after.

There are many products I don't have a need for but you won't find me ranting and raving over them.

Exactly. I have no need for a toilet brush (I specialise on clean breaks), but it doesn't make it a crap product or ill-concieved?!

You're right. Consumer choice is important, and Apple's so called innovation coupled with their current popularity will lead to other manufacturers producing better products and more useful alternatives to the ipad.

You mention that people can't see beyond their own needs, but I don't think that Apple are catering for many people's needs with the ipad. Early sales figures would suggest otherwise though.

I'm finding it difficult to understand how the majority of people could live with 16gb of storage on something that's being marketed as a media device. I'm obviously not Apple's target market with this product, but I can't understand who is.

For those that want an Apple tablet surely? If I was in the market for a tablet and wanted it to be an Apple one then I get the iPad, simple as that.

Your second sentence answers everything you need to know really. You don't see the need for it but millions do.

A lot of these criticisms were aimed at the iphone upon release, it didn't do this, it didn't do that. X phone does it so much better blah blah. I bought one from the US the week it was first unlocked, well before UK release date and most in the office said all that crap about it, fast forward a couple of years and they all had one.

Storage is limited for me yes, I wouldn't like that amount but it obviously doesn't bother the many that are still buying it. You just have to embrace a different way of using a product or not buy it.

Yes, but your sentence about embracing a different way of using a product roughly translated means that you are giving up functionality and paying through the nose for it.

If that's the consumer choice you want, then enjoy.

No it means you're using something in a different way. There's no giving up anything, you can still do what you need just in a different way.

This is a very good point too. Having an ipad depends on you having another computer which also does all of the things an ipad can do. You can't get media content onto it without a computer with a proper operating system.

OSX was never designed to work on a touchscreen only device, the same as Windows wasn't and look at all the WinMo iterations. How strange that MS are going the Apple route with their phone based OS.

Why not ? Netbooks can.

With an ipad, you are buying additional tech that you don't need because it has been dressed in the usual Apple shiney coat.

That's just not the system Apple are selling. Like I said, you get on board with that concept or you leave those who are to it.

You started off proclaiming you're an Apple user so therefore impartial in the debate yet there's definitely an anti-Apple bias to your approach in subsequent posts such as the part I've highlighted. A little similar to starting a debate on race with "I'm not racist because I have a black friend" and then going on to say kick foreigners out the country.

I disagree. Netbooks do everything a little bit rubbishy. I want an ipad to surf the net. Not bothered about typing too much, not bothered about media. Just to browse the net while I'm out in the garden or watching tv etc.

A "big oversized ipod touch" is EXACTLY what I want.

Good for you. And you were 100% happy with paying £429 for browsing the net in the garden ??

How can you even see web pages in the garden with the screen glare ?

Can't wait to buy my iPad.

It's 'cool' to hate the iPad, but it's even cooler to be able to afford and buy one.

Yes we are comparing tablets with netbooks. Steve Jobs did exactly that in his keynote. The ipad competes in the casual netbook user market.
