Iphone 3G wont turn on, no apple logo...

My friend dropped his iphone and now wont turn on, ive tried all the restart techniques but none of them work then i took the screen of to see if there were any loose board connections but there all fine, its out of warranty so he cant take it back to apple, does anyone know the issue? ive been searching for ages but the only solution i find is the restart stuff, im thinking it might be the motherboard has gone?

TRy holding the power and sleep button for a long time together, like 10 seconds or so. If no luck, may be borked!

thats quite apparent, but people who know about these things (i.e not you) may be able to tell me what part in specific is broken so i can repair it.

Does it power up when connected to itunes? if yes, you should be able to reset the software?
if no, then it probably is game over.

I'd love to know how someone will be able to tell you which specific part is broken just by you saying your mate has dropped it and now it won't work.

Tell him to take it to an Apple store and pay to get it fixed seeing as it's out of warranty.

well im 90% sure its not a software issue as the restart techniques didn't work so that rules that out, all the connections were in place, the only two things it could be is the motherboard or the screen, now im not a expert but im narrowed it down to two things, so someone with greater knowledge could probably tell me, why take it to a apple store when there just going to rip you off? if i know which part is broken i can source it myself and fix it for him.
