iPhone 3Gs o2 unlock

HELP PLEASE- I was advised by zerowing that if you know someone with an iPhone contract, you can get yours unlocked by filling in their details on the form ... so I did this but I have received a text saying they couldn't do it

Basically my friend has had a contract iPhone 3Gs 16GB white for 3months, and I filled in the form with my phones imei and in the description ( 32GB 3Gs black ) - this still less that 12month old and when entered the details i entered her contract phone number and not the number that is being used in my iPhone

what can I do differently please ? can this be done ?

Thanks
James

Someone help please - as I want to get this form filled in as soon as possible ?

Her number is deemed as being only a few months old so they won;t be offering any unlocked code to her number just yet. I think you'll have to find someone who has had an O2 number on contract for more than 12 months

That's not true because I had an 02 simplicity SIM and did it as soon as I got the SIM in the post and it worked.

Did you have to put any credit on the sim card? His friend's card / phone / number ie contract is less than 12 months that is why they probably said no it can't be done. Plus to get it done on a simplicity card aren't you supposed to top it up with £15 credit where as contract get it for free.

But since her o2 number is a contract one, o2 won't mind whether they unlock it or not will they ?

The only other person I know is my auntie on a business account with an iPhone 16 ( maybe GB 3G which she has had for well over a year

what do you all suggest, is it worth another shot on my friends account ?

Thanks

O2 will mind using her number to unlock a phone as they would see that the contract is under 12 months, or under the minimum term if 18/24 mths, so in their eyes they have a heavily subsidised phone out there in use so won't be prepared to let go off elsewhere at their cost, well not until the customer has finished the contract term and they have recouped the subsidy.

Your auntie is your best bet at the moment or get a PAYG sim card top it up with £15 and use that number until unlocked.

do you think thats the reason that o2 have refused then, due to it being less than 12months old ?

Also if i was to top up £15 whats the best way to do it for I can enjoy free texts and internet whilst I wait

Thanks

Just checked their site and it says :

Unlocking 2G, 3G & 3GS

Pay Monthly and Business customers

Your iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS can be unlocked at anytime free of charge. If you unlock your handset and put a non-O2 sim into it, you will still have to honour the remainder of the minimum term of your contract.

so that is weird isn't it ?

It must be the way I filled the form out ?

Was the o2 simcard ever actually in your phone?

Pretty sure it has it be at least at one point.

O2 will unlock any iPhone apart from 4, at any time as long as on contract. They won't unlock your phone because although you've given your friends details, his sim is not in the phone that you want unlocking,

Seems to be the only phone a network will unlock mid contract then, as in any case the end user will still be committed to paying the whole term out, but this wouldn't matter for your friend as they will be committed. So they would still get paid.

Not that I have investigated but would using someone elses details cause any complications unlocking other iphones, like their own.

this guy is the only one who got it right. Your sim has to have been in the phone ( and have been in it long enough for the imei to register with the network with the sim)

Err.. no
vodafone will unlock any of their phones under contract at any time for free (apart from the iphone, and certain vodafone exclusives, such as the blackberry storm 2)

I havent checked other networks apart from voda and o2 but im sure most of them will be similar.

Tha'ts handy to know as I know of a few handsets that need unlocking on Vodafone that are still contract. Just goes to show how often I unlock my phones they normally just get shelved or other handsets bought to take the various sims needing to be used, or use alternative unlocking methods. I take it PAYG handsets are just like the PAYG iphone, chargeable, or has this changed now.

get an o2 simplicity sim using cashback. You can get some very cheap deals.

atm after cashback I am on £11.66 a month for 600 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited data+wifi

Nobody knows the ETA of the jailbreak:
-Geohot has one, but he is sick of n00bs and the iphone scene in general and so has told people that he has no plans on a release yet.
- Other groups have not stated any info on a new jb yet.
But be patient, it will come.
You should have saved your shsh's for 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 as then then you could downgrade to them and also jailbreak and unlock.

I don't like o2 tho mate, and I am on a t-mobile contract anyway with unlimited internet, thats why I want to get it unlocked

Also I am a complete noob with iPhones so I don't even know what SHSH's are ?

If it is any longer than a week I am just going to sell the phone

Thanks

]vodafone unlock policy
Just give them a ring or use the form online and the details of the phone and they will get you a code.
If its in their database, you get a code immediately. If not then you may have to wait a week or two for them to get the code from the manufacturer.

Most of vodafones handsets that are sold now are unlocked anyway (payg or contract)
My iphone 3gs was bought in december on payg but i recently got it unlocked for free using my o2 simplicity sim that I got last month.

Lol I dont know why people try jailbreaks and the like (eg flashing psp's, xbox 360s, wiis) without reading around first.

If you want to jailbreak, you should really know stuff about shsh's and other stuff. Although luckily for people like you, the iphone can never really be bricked and can usually always be recovered if something goes wrong.

Best thing now for you would probably be to get a free payg o2 sim, top up £15 and unlock officially if you can't wait.

You're both wrong because I've used my mates o2 contract details and kept my normal sim in my iphone infact I was on T-Mobile (had an unofficial jailbreak unlock). You just give them YOUR PHONES IMEI Number...that is what get's it unlocked not the phone number or o2 sim card being in your phone. They text his phone saying "Your iphone is now unlocked etc." Checked my iphone on itunes and there it was "Congratulations, your iPhone is now unlocked".

o2 have been known to make mistakes in their iphone unlocking (eg unlocking a payg iphone for free) . However, I stand by the fact that the o2 policy is that the imei has to have been registered as using the sim on the network.

If that fails then I will take out the 30day rolling contract and do it the way you said

Agreed it may be worth another try. As I said, o2 make mistakes and he might slip through the net.
You never know , it could work; but all I am saying is not to hold your breath OP.

Also FYI, in the last 12 hours it appears that there is a working userland jailbreak from comex, chpwn and planetbeing. However, I expect it will take them a little time to refine it and produce it as a spirit-like jb.

I think I'm gunna give it another pop on my mates account and hope to slip thru the net, should I fill in all his details and just put my imei and for the description should I describe his phone or mine? Eg 32GB black 3Gs or should I write his which is a 16GB White 3Gs ?

If all else fails I will just wait for this jailbreak and unlock... I am guessing it will take about a week - correct ?

Thanks
James

O2 PAYG sim will do too thats what i used.Just load it with £20 make a few calls send a few txts ( dont go below £15 ) then apply for unlock. It took mine about 3 days.
