iPhone X pricing

Found 4th Nov 2017
Hi guys, I have been with O2 for a decade or more. Was looking at the new iPhone X but something didn’t add up in the pricing. Delved a little deeper into the refresh deals and found some upsetting pricing. O2 is charging £1131.99 for the handset. £132 premium over rrp. Also the airtime for the iPhone X is higher than other handsets and SIMO. The 10gb unlimited tariff is £21 on SIMO and some other handsets but £29 when bolted to the iPhone X???

Think I’m going to jump ship on O2 or at best take the SIMO deal and get my handset elsewhere. Why are they ramping up the prices whilst the hype is high.

Why people have to comment on people’s choice is ridiculous, answer the question asked not give you abuse. I would shop around and try to find the best contract deal, they all look way to high some even doing 36 months deals to make it look good.

Not sure what you mean. If it’s a waste of money being an Apple snob, that’s not the comments or discussion I’m interested in. I’ve had mobiles since 1999. I’ve had everything from Phillips, Trium, Nokia, Siemens, htc, Sony Ericsson and the list goes on. I choose Apple. I’ve had most of the handsets.
The price should be £10,000, makes it even more desirable and exclusive. Add in a Hermes limited edition cover, fork out another £10,000. In ten year's this combination is a collector's item worth £50,000 In pristine unused condition.

Whoopy doo for you, my first phone was a Nokia banana phone with modded screen so it lit up red. They all do the same thing every other person I see has a Apple phone (the rest Samsung) and all anyone ever does with em is sit on public transport looking at fakebook or YouTube, you can do that with a £50 phone, they all make calls, do texts and go online.
I had a look at the iPhone X yesterday and it looks and handles great. It’s going to be the best phone to have, BUT the pricing is ridiculous. My recent experience with Apple on getting a replacement MacBook Pro due to 3 different hardware failures within 30 months with AppleCare in place was mediocre at best, although I got there in the end.

So the cost cost of this phone plus AppleCare would be about £1300.

I would rather stick pins in my eyes.

Might be cheaper buying the X from Apple 0% interest and whatever sim only of choice.

I’m not disagreeing with you. The world is going crazy with ever increasing prices. After Xmas when our supplier costs increase we may see the first £5 pint where I work. My business rates have gone from 26k per year last year to 71k per year this year. My house (which I rent) was valued at 141k 5 years ago when I moved in and is now valued at £265k well out of my reach to purchase. Weekly shops are going up and up.

Last week I listened to a guy moan about income tax brackets. How the rate increases over £99k income and how much more over £125k well I stood there after a 55 hour week and thought I don’t even earn the difference in his rant. Good on him for getting that. But who decides these incomes?.?

Last years hols cost £1400 same in 2018 will cost me £2400, and why?? All these increases are because things are priced at what people will pay. And where we think £999 is too much for a phone millions of peeps are happy to pay it and the price will always match expectation.

Its simple, if you want apple you should know by now to pull your pants down and bend over. Theres no 'deals' with them.

Rant done. This topic was supposed to be about O2 overcharging on many levels, not Apple ,overcharging for what it is

Do you know what the deposit would be on the 20% upgrade programme?

im assuming about £100 then £63.95 per month for 20 months inclusive of AppleCare.
It's possible that due to low supply and probably high demand they feel justified in price gouging.
Other retailers do it with GPUs and recently CPUs for example.
I keep that in mind when buying other things so avoid the worst price gougers in the future where feasible to do so in a pragmatic way.

I don't know about smugness doesn't that get cancelled out by looking around you and seeing all the other people with the same phone? I thought phones are the poor persons status symbol akin to fast cars, if all the super rich drove around in Bugatti's they might aswell be ford escorts.

They charge what people will pay so the answer is don't pay it and prices go down, lots of Lidl opening now I see until this year lidl and Aldi where things I'd heard of but never seen, but thanks to being cheaper then the established names they are taking the market, I now have 3 Lidl within a short bus ride with a 4th on the way.

I think there are more than 2 options.
isn't it 899 or something at very with a code?

just pay that off over 12 months BNPL and move to o2 sim only

my o2 contract is now sim only, after paying off my phone and costs me £11/m for unlimited txts, mins and 6gb data

(my next phone is the note 4 or mi a1, as I'm not clinically insane)
My money my choice, until people start contributing to the cost of my phone, they’ll have no contribution to my choice of phone. End of.

well that is the point if you are willing to waste money on overpriced phone dont blame anyone but yourself that mobile providers will do everything they can to get even more out of you
I think it might be a combination of people wanting this handset at all costs (so O2 can take advantage of this and ramp up prices) and the fact they offer stuff like free screen replacement etc on this handset for example.

Well. Today I had a look around. Apple are the best handset only price. Checked EE, sky, virgin.

However linked to a 5gb SIMO O2 will be £999 from Apple plus 24 months x £15 = total £1359 over 2 years.

Virgin are more expensive at handset cost 24 x 55 but sim (1500 mins unl text 5gb inc roll over) £3 per month. = £1392

Compare to O2 Refresh at 24 x 69 + 69.99 upfront = £1725.99

I guess VM is for me and you can do a 3 year too. And like O2 Refresh you can cancel at anytime as long as you pay the handset off.

Think you missed quality of pictures, security systems, support systems, IP67/8 certification, materials the phones made out of, linkage to other systems such as Mac and Ipad. No of that you will get with a £50 phone(lol) You have no clue(lol) See you on other threads making troll comments, silly, sad no life.

Buy a proper camera with a proper optical lense and stop faffing around with a phone, i don't care what the phone is made of, why would i need to link anything to a Mac or Ipad I'm not a sheep trapped in someones stupid controlling system, i can upload and download any damn thing I want on my G mail, Facebook etc, upload sites and so on, i can use steaming sites and listen to Spotify etc

What are you a dinosaur what are you linking things for when everything is online for free?

For the average person a good quality phone camera is enough not a big bulky thing likely to get damaged. ‘Sheep trapped in someones stupid controlling system’(lol) Keep telling yourself that pal, Im by no means a sheep.

Obviously you’ve never worked or been a student in your life then.

Forgot to mention Ram management, but ignorance is bliss.
Its all good phones the prices have gone way too much
It's supply and demand really isn't it? They can charge these amounts because people will pay a premium to have the latest model. Personally I think it is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a phone but then I manage quite well with my £70 phone and £5 SIM only deal so I would think that. Loyalty doesn't pay these days so I guess if you are set on having this phone, you will do best to shop around. I've had mobile phones for donkeys years now and I must have been on just about every network there is. They don't even bother trying to keep your custom as a rule these days. Mind you, I'm not much of a money spinner for them so maybe it is just me they don't want
It is frustrating because better offers can be found on o2 with resellers, as a die hard apple fan though, even I think carrying round a grande worth of phone with you is risky. Sticking to the 7 until I can upgrade then going for the 8.

A camera is bulky? Have you paid any attention to the size of your phone? If you think a phone camera is enough then clearly you are just boring people to death with your selfies on Facebook instead of actually wanting to capture memories that are worth keeping

Your best bet is to:-
Phone O2 retentions. Ask what the best deal is they will do on an X. If they won’t budge. Ask what the best price is on Sim Only for your own requirements. If that sucks day bye and see what they offer.
Buy the handset in the Apple store on Upgrade plan. £58ish a month 0% with £100 down I think it is. After 11 months you can swap to the newest model or keep paying for 20months total. It also includes Appplcare but you can opt out of it.
Original Poster
Have tried. Absolutely no movement on retention’s and after sending email to complaints review the 5 day response has been and gone. Even if I get the payment plan with Apple, I don’t need full care as it includes basic care for 12 months and I have insurance with my bank. 20gb plus SIMO are around 18-30 having done the maths and no intention of upgrading within the 2 years it looks like VM are they way for me. Have tried to order through Apple store every day since launch but no luck as credit plans have to be done in store
Why are you getting so hung up about it?

You're not happy with the pricing from your supplier, you've called them and they won't give a long-standing customer a better deal.

Take your business elsewhere and save some money...

Remember that arguing with an idiot on the internet is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can happily win, but the pigeon will still kick all the pieces over and then s**t on the board regardless.

As an aside, Vodafone will give you two years warranty on an iPhone so you're getting the same as you wold from John Lewis and 12 months more than Apple offer, although Apple's aftercare has always been great and they've replaced an iPad for me after a year and repaired my wife's MacBook Air after 3 1/2 years when the display went tilt.

Very true. Yes im talking about Apple support they are brilliant, contactable from the app store Apple app can use live chat if I have got an issue. I also had a slight problem with the home button on my Iphone 4 back in the year it was replaced, went to the store and they just gave me a new one(embarrassed)

Yep thought that and completed transaction at virgin mobile. Get confirmation email but says need further info to complete. Called them and got an absolute cock and bull story. Sales guy tells me you have passed credit check and completed all details however VM use a system for ranking there customers, be it new or existing. And I am a C3 level. Yet only persons who are C4 are eligible for iPhone X. I was instead offered an iPhone 8plus. Or the option to go sim only for 6 months to see if m6 level increases to C4. WTF. Lots of comments of the same outcome on their site, wish I hadn’t bothered for now. What a pile of poo of an idea to limit the new iPhone X to its top 10% of looked after customers.
