ive had my 30gb video ipod for about a year and its been fine, in the last couple of weeks the earphone jack broke so i bought and fitted a new one and theipod has worked perfectly for about a week. then yesterday it failed to turn on even when plugged into my laptop. ive opened it up and checked the hardisk logic board and battery and they all look fine but it just wont do anything at all. no hardisk noises, nothing displayed on screen it just appears to have died. p.s its out of warantee

can anyone help me fix it?
or knows whats wrong with it?

rep added for any help =]

have you tried re booting it, holding the center button and top button together?

could be as simple as a dead battery? i know a few who thought they had a dead ipod. but a new battery sorted it. might be worth a try

no, once the battery is dead, its dead, it won't turn on when it is plugged in.

but would the battery just die like that
its not like the battery was running low or wouldnt hold charge
or would it?

yeah, the battery could just die if it has had enough.

but just found this tho:

According to the Apple support site, a dead iPod face means there was an error getting data from the disk.

Try removing the battery. My iPod appeared to be totally dead. I removed the battery for a few minutes and when I replaced it all was well.
