Getting son ipod touch for Christmas. We have always had ipods so understand the usual concept of an ipod and that these are wifi but can someone clarify what is the difference between the 2nd and 3rd generation. My son is not necessarily looking for brand new so we may consider a 2nd generation if we could get a bigger memory for the money.
Anyone know the difference or be able to steer me to a site that would explain it.
Thanks in advance.

I'm told the main difference is external speakers on the 3rd gen, but there's bound to be something else as well.

External speakers on the 2 gen as well but main differences on 3rd gen are voice control, faster cpu, better graphics and is only available in 32gb or 64gb

Adding to this the 8gb model which is still a 2nd gen but with newer software is the best value and you get that for around the £140 mark. If you want the third gen then your looking at £200 for 32gb and about £275 for 64gb. Search in search box for ipod touch plenty of deals on hukd.
