Why do adverts use such irritating people or voices, it is purely just because they will be memorable because its so annoying.

At least that irritating asda advert isn't on as much with that bushy haired special fella.

It's the natwest one annoying me now. "tomorrow begins today" mainly on the radio.

Also the annoying Renault adverts, with that terrible fake French accent woman.

You can record it and clip it if you know what you're doing - eg, with a program like Audacity. Though I wouldn't upload it to Youtube or anywhere public, it was just for a few friends to hear.

The fact that you remember them means they have achieved their objective. By the same logic, you will see the thumbnail pic of many YouTube videos has people making all kinds of faces or something similarly outrageous. Research shows that these gimmicks work.

I cant believe people still watch live TV and listern to the radio and have a chance to hear the adverts!

The radio Vodafone advert annoys me so much. Her tone of voice is all wrong. Instead of coming across as smart and sassy, she comes across as smug and condescending.

I also hate the moonpig advert when she pronounces 'mischievous' wrong.

I have to turn the radio off when the Vodafone woman comes on. Like you said, condescending and smug. And they’re still using her! 18months after you wrote this post, so they must like her. Personally it’s worked the opposite way and I shudder whenever I hear Vodafone mentioned because of her voice.

Amazing that poster "complains" about the annoying adverts.

But then goes on to mention the companies involved: ASDA, NatWest and Renault.

Surely he has answered his own question.

When I'm looking for an insurance renewal, the first thing that comes into my head is the opera singer. So in a way it's done exactly what it set out to do.

Although I remember the GoCompare adverts, they irratated me so much that when I look for insurance renewal I always remember to avoid that site.

Seems the advertisers are getting really desperate to gain your attention, whereas the opposite is true. The more annoying they become, the more consumers will shun them and have a negative view of the offering.

And they think & assume consumers are real dumb. That Plusnet ad. havent they overdone & outlived that Yorkshire accent thingy? Dont feel like visiting Yorkshire ever.

Race to the bottom? I sure hope so !

Hi, success friend. Yes, Yandrew is a gem. There's a new one actually, I think it only went on very recently.

It often is much better when a witty content creator is paid to make an ad themselves, like Adam. Another really good example is Jay Foreman's YouTube channel, where he does amusing videos about geography and history and stuff. The ads continue the same tone as the actual videos, which incidentally do remind me a bit of Adam Buxton in their style and humour.

Those two men in the alarm advert, repeatedly pointing at each other like alpha males, who think they'll feel "really safe" if they have a little alarm bell ringing when they're burgled, but still probably no police until three days later.

We were watching a programme on ITV a few days ago and an advert came on. My son says 'why did you turn the TV over?'. We then had to go through explaining what adverts were. His response was 'oh, it's those things on Youtube isn't it?'.

But back to the original question, for me it's the GoCompare adverts that had the longest lasting effect, and I'm still not sure whether it's in a positive or negative way. Any advert that is clearly dubbed eg Calgon.

Car companies are the worst for this.

Here, buy our 20/30/40k car from us, it's awesome, but we think so little of you as a customer base that we can't justify spending money filming adverts for your country's market, so here, watch a model you won't be able to buy, driving on terrain you're likely to never see, for a price that you'll have to add 50% to get near the spec shown.
