Is £2.5K + VAT too much for conveyancing?

I have got a quote from a local conveyancer to sell a house in London at £2,500 + VAT (excluding disbursements). This sounds a bit on the high side as I was expecting something like just over a grand + VAT.

    Anyone can comment please?

Just got another quote from a local solicitor and coming in at £1,000 + VAT. Wo.......a big difference? oO

Are they just actioning the sale (no purchase)? Are they local (to London)? If they are outside of London that's high. We've always used local solicitors in the south (Brighton) but nearly all allow postal completion of forms etc.

Yes - That's sounds about right. From my experience Leasehold sales/purchase charges are a few hundred pounds more that Freehold purchases/sales. There is nothing stopping you from going with a conveyancer further a field where hourly charges may be lower.

It is just a sale of a freehold house. The solicitor that quoted £2.5k + VAT is in west sussex! I got two quotes from solicitors in surrey and they are coming in at £1k + VAT so I think the one in west sussex was just taking the pee oO

I actually live in West Sussex and have used a few over the years. Green Wright Chalton Annis acted on our last sale and purchase, I think it was about £700 for each action so approx £1400 in total. 2.5k is a joke!

could have waited 26mins til you got the 2nd/3rd quotes?

I think that £2.5k is way OTT as the other two quotes I got from solicitors in surrey were half that. I would have thought that a conveyancer in west sussex would be cheaper than ones in surrey or at least comparable. I can't see how they can justify the extra £1,500 for the same work?

I nearly fell over when I got that quote through, which was the first quote so I felt so relieved when I got the other two more reasonable quotes. Phew...

I am waiting for one more quote from another west sussex solicitors so it will be interesting if they are all taking the pee in west sussex, but from what you say, you found a reasonable one at £1,400 for sale and purchase.
