    IS BLUERAY THAT GOOD??

does anyone else think that blueray is not all that great ?? I must admit I only use a ps3 which is entry level stuff but I feel some pictures are great in a movie and some seem very fuzzy ...where as a normal def movie is consistantly good. Anyone else think same ? or is it just me!

depends on your TV AND the Blu Ray

PS3 is a good player, hardly entry level

    in my case

PS3, MINT TV, good blu rays

    ANSWER = YES

blu ray is a HUGE improvement,of course, that assumes you are using hdmi and a decent tv.

there are a few bad blu ray discs where the transfer has been done badly but seriously,if you cant see a VAST improvement you need to look at your setup.

You may need to play with your TV settings.

    ANSWER = YES

    That's clear then!

Other factors to take into account:

    1) The transfer to the Blu-ray Disc (is it lifted straight from the master, the VHS edition, DVD variant, or remastered especially for the better resolution).

    2) The size of the HD-TV, the resolution it supports, & the distance you are sat from it whilst viewing.

    3) Your own eyesight.

    if its a hdtv..........

whats your TV? Blu-ray quality is so much better than DVD. Watch a few films in blu-ray and you'll see a massive difference when you go back to DVD.

Don't let the luddites convince you otherwise

Watch Planet Earth on Blu-Ray. Then come back here. It blew my socks off

A Waste Of Money In My Opinion!!
I Have Had All, Betamax Poor , Vhs Poor , Dvd Good, Bluray Good.
However standard Dvds Played On A Bluray Player (ps3) Or An Upscaling Dvd Player Played Through A Hdmi Cable Into A Good Hdtv are Not A Million Miles Off Bluray .
Don't Get Me Wrong Visually Blurays Look Good and helps if the Hz on your tv is 100Hz plus as 50Hz struggles with fast movements, BUT when you Consider Most Dvds You Can Pick Up For £1 £2 £3 Etc .You Will Watch Most Films Once! Then Compile A Large Collection To A Shelf Collecting Dust!!
I Remember Paying £69.99 For The Lotr Extended Dvd Collection 12 Discs When They Were First Released. They Now Retail For Aprx £17.
Blu Ray Lotr Collection Is Now Due For £49.99. Next Year It Will Be 3d And So On And So On. Aaagggghhhhhh One Big Monopoly!!!!!!!!!!

I agree completely. I have only seen Blu-rays a few times at a freind's house (using the recently on offer Sony Blu-ray player BDP S360 and a Samsung 40" full HD tv with 100hz) and I'm glad that I didn't jump in and get a Blu-ray player. The quality looked no better than dvds upscaled to my LG 32" full HD tv via Xbox 360 (and I did have my contact lenses in!). It's not a great comparison as they are different TVs and they were different films but I saw nothing that justified paying (quite a lot) more for Blu-ray. If anything I would have thought it would have been easier to see the improved quality of Blu-ray on a larger TV and with 100hz :?

I think when you read around Blu-rays it's not just the image that is important. the sound format offered by Blu ray is apparently better. With HD video and lossless sound you get the whole audio-visual package.

Since buying a blu ray player (i'm not a simple ps3 owner ;-) ) I have felt the need to upgrade my sound system to get the best out of the HD video element. I havent done so yet because of cost :-(

So yes blu ray is much better than DVD on many occasions (dependant on the source) but its also the sound quality that goes alongside it that rounds off the experience.

    It is THAT good!

    Yeah we think so

Have a range of different Bluray films some old ones can look alittle fuzzy but most are brilliant.

The difference from TV speakers to full surround sound (stand alone not those pants all in one things) gives a far greater improvement to films than going from upscaling DVD player to blu-ray.

    Although i have both!

tbh i think you can tell, even playing 720p mkv rips through my WDTV is a noticeable improvement on DVD, even on a random film (Zombieland, Hangover, Funny People)

Whether or not you need Blu-ray on films like that is questionable though

    Blurays are good

they will eventually come down in price, look at DVD's back in the past.. they used to cost the same as Blurays do now. I watched batman (dark knight) yesterday, which i got for £7, and it was goooooooooooooooooood

    Too True.....

I watched the plane crash scene from a downloaded copy of Knowing and was thinking I'm sure it was better than that at the cinema, then when I got the blu-ray and watched the same scene my house nearly fell apart... I actually thought it was raining outside too... Felt like I was actually there (Mind you I do have a £600 surround system)
