Is it just me or am i not supposed to be driving? :(

Got my Driving test soon, and have been looking for several days for insurance on different cars, but it has come to a point, where i am out of ideas, and have no chance of paying £2995 for insurance on an old corsa, which i have to buy too!

Any ideas or

Is it not meant to be?

Oh yeah, I'm a 17 year old male, living in an HU12 postcode.

2995 is well over the top, my old astra when i was a student was 1400 with interest! is it fully comp?

It's because of your age. Insurance will be really high for drivers under 21. Mines is £1400 on a 2002 corsa and I'm 20.

tell me about it!
when i looked for insurance, out of curiosity this time last year, it was around £1200, now it is a sickening price!
and yeah, fully comp/TPFT all pretty similar!

i feel for the youngsters these days, not all of them are boy racers,my lad will be in the same boat at some point & we were just testing the water with quotes & it was like wtf !!! we only want insurance for him, not the whole bloody street :x

Try quinndirect, or churchill

I know, i know some idiots, who live up to the name, but i will not be irresponsible behind the wheel, i value my life and others too much!

and yep, have looked at both!
with similar negative consequences!

Those prices usually mean "we don't want to touch you with a barge pole, so here's a price that puts forward our feelings"...

You tried the 'tag onto parent insurance' option until you have a couple of years experience?

Why are you going fully comp on a old car? Just get 3rd party fire and theft. Also try playing around with the voluntray excess, i found some times saying i would pay an exrta £250 it would knock nearly that off. My first insurance was 7 years ago on a £200 polo was £1000 for 10m bonus thing where after 10m you got a years no claims, shame some **** pinched my car!

OP said the prices are all similar.

Admiral

significantly lower for me and friends

put a female as a name driver on your policy. this is not illegal, all it does is allows them to drive it, as long as your still the policy holder this is fine. For some reason this drastically bought my price down 2 years in a row, as well as giving my mum the option to borrow my car. Use a mum/aunt/cousin anything. also be quite specific about your average mileage, all these details will bring your policy down

i wouldnt recommend quinns, dont want to know if theres any problems. good luck to you

I'm not, i mean the difference between the two is minimal, or even TPFT is more!
and yeah thats good, but like i said, insurance has rocketed in recent months/years!

yeah i also tried admiral after hearing a similar story, people said that they have got great quotes from them, but still a mega high price with my mum as a named driver!

Try a local insurance broker, our local one always gave us the best deal when my hubs was younger. But he could only do it on TPFT with Highways insurance it seems he could go into the system and change the quote it gave!

and yeah, good idea, like what?

We were quoted like £3k for me to be insured on the family car.

Be sure to put your parents as named drivers on the insurance too, might bring it down a bit.

yeah, i think my mum will be swapping her 1.8 focus for a 1.2 corsa come september, and it would be £1550 for me as a named driver minus her insurance fee, leaves me £1300 to pay

Ouch feel bad for fellow young drivers having to pay alot of money just for insurance. This is the only time i say this "thank god im disabled", im on the motability scheme.

Heres what i pay: £45 per week for 3 years.

This gets me:

Brand new car
Fully insured (plus i can have someone else covered on it so they can drive my car)
RAC Breakdown
Free Tyres
Free parts
Free Roadtax

Only thing i have to pay extra for is Petrol.

Give Quinn Direct a call, they sorted me out. I put my Girlfriend on the insurance and it brought it down by £200.

Try to start your own policy as soon as possible and build up those no claims. I bit the bullet and paid £1300 last year (20 years old) and now i've got 1 years no claims and i'm 21 the insurance renewal is £650...

so yeah, Quinn Direct...

Quinn have gone into administration. I have 2 policies with Aviva on my 2 cars, rang their cs dept and said I wanted another policy for 18 yr son who passed last summer (had been insured with Quinn but they were unable to renew it) with son as MAIN driver (not just a named driver). They gave me policy for £940 fully comp with me, oh and son on policy. This did include me using my NCD so expect to pay about 50% more than this. Your insurance was cheaper last year because you were a learner and as soon as you drive by yourself the premium sky-rockets. Good Luck.

Don't get a Corsa. Get a group 1/2 car that a 17-year old self-respecting boy-racer wouldn't be seen dead in. See the quote halve!
