Is it just my sick sense of humour?

Found 6th Oct 2009
daughter is watching disneys "handy manny"-for the uninitiated its about a guy who runs a repair shop and has talking tools.

In this episode cassie, the girl from the petshop calls manny in a panic because she has a blockage in her dirtpipe!

Manny says "I have a tool for that I will be right there"

Just spluttered coffee all over the walls!

I need to get out more

I want to know why Manny even gets off his ass as his tools do all the work.

I don't have a clue what that means. I obviously don't have kids.

It's probably written like that for adults, they do it all the time with there movies.

I was watching this, my little one loves it.

It is rather amusing, as he started laughing when I did!!!

...wait for the lines about "big end", "servicing", and "driving her home".

Kids are spoiled these days. It is so telegraphed for them. .

When "Batman" was on in the 1960s, for instance, it was a lot harder to work out the in-your-end-do.

BFN,

(And yes, before somebody says it, I know "Batman" is a Detective Comics character, not a Disney/Marvel one).

Reminiscent of the old Captain pugwash cartoons, about the adventures of a pirate. I'm told there was a character called Seaman Staines!!!

Yup.

A real pity for John Ryan (]died 22 July 22 2009) the writer of the Pugwash books as he used to visit schools& libraries to talk about his writing, the animation based on his original cartoons, & how the TV series was made, to supplement his income.

In 1970 Richard Digance made reference to the characters in a sketch & Ryan's bookings to visit schools stopped literally overnight.

Digance was slapped with a twenty five year injunction (that ended in 2008) preventing him for making any further references to Captain Pugwash during that time.

Ryan sued (the owners of) "The Guardian" & "The Sunday Correspondent" newspapers in 1991 when it was reported that his stories did have references to "Roger the Cabin Boy", "Seaman Staines", & "Master Bates".

There was also suggestion that "Pugwash" is an Australian term (meaning an anagram of Axl Rose).

There were characters called "Willy", "Master Mate", & "Tom the Cabin Boy", though.

Not only is 'Pugwash' an Axl-Rosism, his first name 'Horatio' is too! :whistling:

Really? Those crazy Antipodeans have more words for that 'act' than Esquimaux (Inuit) do for snow!

(In fact, how many names are there for indigenous peoples inhabiting circumpolar regions?... Probably already been a "Misc" topic before now though)

Well Horatio is, if I am to believe the wonderous lexicon that is Roger's Profanisaurus, actually cockney-rhyming slang* (I'll let you work it out...), so we can't blame that one on the residents of Erinsborough...

* Actually its not proper cockney-rhyming slang, if it were 'Nelson' would be the correct term
