    Is it legal to...

Record a film on Sky, burn it to dvd then send it to someone else?

Only asking as some one has a HUKD request for HSM and wondered whether there was any law against someone recording it for them and sending it to them.

I realise you cannot sell them but if you just send them for no return is that ok?

    i would think so

I don't think it is legal....

i think its legal as long as you don't charge coz its like you recording a program on vid and borrowing it to a mate

It will be illegal to do so. (You are only allowed to record for personal use). Though I wont tell if you dont!

    Thats illegal too

OP - its illegal but unless the person you are sending it to works for FACT or Trading Standards theres no way on earth you will get caught or done for it!

    who cares, just do it

But with Sky's DRM if you play a recording on your dvd player, and you don't have Sky....Your TV will blow up!

    It is illegal.

its illegal but i will eat my own socks if you get taken to court for doing so

    Remember...

It was not a question posted because I am 'weird'. I have no intentions of doing as the question I posted I just wondered if it was legal.

Illegal i would only do it for close mates and family though. Doing it for someone on internet because they can't be bothered to download it is just lazy on their part.

    i totally agree with lumoruk

It IS illegal (both films and TV programs). The rules is that you can record for your own personal use, for "time shifting purposes" (in other words, to watch at a later time). There's no rule about how long a reasonable time to keep it is.

If you give it, sell it, lend it or pass it to someone else asfter you've recorded it then it's illegal as it is distribution of material to which you don't own the copyright. Although, as said above, the only way you'd get caught is if the person you sent it to got you into trouble... Or if the Royal Mail decide to take a look...

when i was younger i always used to recorded songs off the radio onto tape and lend them to my friend was that illegal?

If the band/group were signed and their music was copyrighted by their production company then yes it would have been illegal.
