I have two laptops but need to extend the display from one laptop to the other. This means that one of the laptops is simply used for display purposes only.

Anyone know if tihs is possible and if so, how ?

Thanks

Not like you think. If both laptops are on the same network, then you could use a program like synergy to control the keyboard and mouse of the 2nd laptop from the first, and open up programs as you normally wopuld throught the normal 2nd laptops start menu.

looks like a good tool but dont think its what I need.

I have laptop A and B

I want to use mouse and keyboard for laptop A but want to extend A's desktop onto laptop B. Dont want to use mouse or keyboard or hard drive or anything on laptop B. Laptop B should be treated purely as a display.

Don't think so unless it has vga in, maybe possible if it has s-video in or something, maybe through the usb but would probably be really slow.

I would just use another monitor, most people have a spare one somewhere.

the simple answer is no, you need a dual head graphics card or 2 seperate graphics cards in order to use dual displays, there's no way to use the card on the second laptop's graphics card to display data from the first one. Although as the first poster says you can use rdc in windows for remote control.

You can extend onto a monitor using a standard laptop, just use the vga out.

Would have thought you could pick up a second hand one cheap if it's something you need.

Sell the 2nd laptop and use the funds to buy a tft screen.

I know this doesnt help but there is a product out there... I was looking for the same thing last year.... it sends the data thru the network to the second laptop and it acts like an extended desktop... I'm not talking about remote desktop.... the second laptop acts like a monitor only. I dont know the product name but keep looking! Its out there!
