Is it possible to get a refund?

Bought a "Reebok i-run" from Argos in January. Problem is the engine has gone for the second time in the space of 2 month's . I really cannot be bothered calling an engineer out every now and again and would just like a refund and join a gym!

P.S. I know i shouldnt have bought an @ home treadmill.

P.P.S. No sarcastic comments on i should have just ran outside! , lol.

Nought wrong with home Treadmills, we had one for years.

Motor is gone now tho

Erm I'm pretty sure that the law is that you have a 1 Year Warranty on all products, and this is backed up by the EU, but argos are usually pretty good, just go along and give them any old story, they never usually ask questions

Could be a bit harsh popping along with it !

Massive piece of equipment and i trashed the box. ( Box was bigger than a 3 seater couch!)

Take it back to Argos, tell them it never worked properly and that even after having called the Reebok repair man to fix it isn't functioning properly and that you would like your money back.

During the first 6 month, since purchase of the product, the retailer must proof that the product was not faulty at the time of purchase, failing that you are allowed to return the product for refund or outright replacement.

You will likely have to spend an hour talking various people, but if your are persistent you will get your refund.

The sale of good act allows the manufacturor the right to repair, replace and refund an item an its generally in that order.

You could try to arge that it is not fit for the purpose that is was intended ie. a fitness machine, any Court would allow a seconf opportunity for the repair, however I would suggest that you had a reasonable argument to ask for refund after that. For further info try the consumer direct webpage, there are standard letters that you can use.

If you had it delivered in first place, yes. If you collected it yourself, no. Missing packaging makes no real difference.

Just remember that if they do agree to collect you are responsible for packing it properly.

Just remember to be nice and polite. And don't forget that persistence is key, you have to get past the customer services rep, who will keep telling you that the item has to be repaired.

If you bought it on the internet or over the phone the distance selling regs say that if it develops a fault within the first six months you can assume that the fault was inherant and you have the right to a replacement or a refund ,It is up to the seller to prove otherwise,

I had purchased it before the start of new year and didnt get delivery until January 12th.

I wolud say from delivery ,However i may be wrong about them having to give you a replacement or refund ,I have been trying to find the exact wording for the rules ,I do know that if it breaks within six months you can say it was inherrantly faulty and it is up to them to prove otherwise ,But whether this means they have to give you a refund i am unsure,

I am fairly certain that the law doesn't actually state "whoes choice it is". There is however a paragraph that talks about reasonable costs, which could be used by the retailer to force a repair, since it is much more economical than an outright replacement.

However none of this should be applicable in the first 6 month, unless the retailer can proof that the product was ok to begin with.

I have personally given/obtained partial refunds for 18months old laptops, replaced laptops for new ones when they failed after 5-6months, refunded 8 month old huge multifunction printers and even got a manufacturer to repair a 24month old laptop free of charge.

Conclusion? The retail sector is like daylight robbery, everyone grabs what they can and hopes that no one will be bold enough to speak up when something goes wrong.

Got a refund.

1st person i spoke to was a lady, denied a refund after a load of questions, then told to phone reebok.

2nd person, a guy, put it through almost instantly.
