Is it worth keeping recovery partition?

What I mean is I have changed the motherboard, cpu, ram, graphics card.

In fact all I have kept from the original pc is the case and hard drive, simply since the hard drive has a recovery partition

Anyway since I have changed mobo I now cant use recovery parition, or at least I can but need to find software which is available nowhere on torrents, and to get it you need to be a registered pc repairer and pay fees.

But apart from Vista itself and the things like sound drivers etc the rest is useless to me without a huge amount of effort

Anyway I was thinking of using a copy of my friends Vista to install with my license(though I reckon mine is OEM)

But this is far less hassle than sorting recovery partition

Probably not, your license probably wont work either way so I guess its a case of 'finding' another copy of Vista....

your recov partition will not work at all, generally, there is something in the mobo that the computer partition has to sync up with before allowing it to work.

Your licence should still work, but you will have to activate. I dont know if you can activate vista on the telephone, but you will need to speak to one of the reps, explain what you have done and they will give u the code. Then make an image of the hdd!

Yeah its called a tattoo which is what I was on about, the discs arent available to public nor available on torrent.

Only way to get it is, to log into the HP site with a pc repairers password and username.

Once thats done its pretty easy though but its pretty impossible to find the software

if you have put in a seagate drive you can get the free download diskwizard which can create a new recovery image on the recov partition, works for newer maxtor drives as well and i beleive WD have something similar.

dont think you use tattoos on hp's

its something as simple as a recov disc disc would do the job

anyhoo, i wouldnt do it anyway, it would install all your old drivers, and the computer might not like it!
