Is renewing your car insurance driving you crazy? Then you're not alone!

I bought an '06 Golf in August and had a minor bump in March '08 and my insurance quotes are almost double what I paid last year - arggghhhh!

I'm checking out Quidco, using compare sites and the web for cheap insurance, but it's just too damn expensive! I've got 8 years NCD (protected) and am 36 years old, wtf is going on?

I'm just stumped as to why £420 is the cheapest quote I can get! I apologise for my little outburst.

coz they are thiefs as people thieve of them

    No points?

    I have 6 and 1 recent bump - and I'm paying just under £400 for a Honda Accord. I'm 39.

I remember when I was about 20, thinking I can't wait til I get older and insurance will be so cheap - still waiting!

welcome to my world......I had 4 years no claims and I literally scratched the paintwork on the bumper (about 2inches) of an 04 renault clio or summit.....and my insurance went from £180 a year up to almost £500 and they took all my 4 years no claims from me.... :-(

Why did they take 4 years for a minor scratch and not two like most companies? That really isn't good.

Need to get it protected next time mate - and use a scratch and dent guy for damage like that - probably cost you less than your excess in reality.

They are only allowed to take 2 years per claim.

No, its not good. The person who I "ran" into or bumped decided they wanted to claim it through the insurance and basically kicked the ass right out of it...claiming £400 for hire car expenses while his vehicle was in getting "repaired". The insurer was Quinn-Direct by the way, I'd defo give them a wide berth...

I spent almost 2 hours on the phone talking to 4 different people before I got through to the actual case handler who dealt with the claim.....and each person I spoke to I had to explain everything from the beginning.......

In the end they said they would give me back 1 years NCD and that I would receive the paperwork confirming this in the post within a a few days, needless to say that it never happened......and I really didnt want to call them again......they will tell you anything you want to hear to get you off the phone.....

Wasnt my car that was scratched dude, was the other parties

In their schedule of T&Cs it stated that they could only take a maximum of 3 and that was for severe or costly claims.....I tried this on the phone mate...its a completely different ball game between whats supposed to happen and what actually happens......

Go Compare, Go Compare, in just a few clicks, and spondulicks, Go Compare... (yeah i dont know what the spondulicks bit actually says)
hope this helps, although i doubt it

    Ahh, sorry mate.:whistling:

Still, make sure you protect your no claims next time - it really doesn't add much to the cost.

You have a contract with them, it's as simple as that. If this happened recently, you should really follow it up.

I wasn't aware that there were any insurers that did any system other than 2 years lost per claim, usually up to 3 claims at which point all is lost not 6+.

Bit of a false sense of security though. The insurer knows you have made a claim regardless of your NCB, so protecting it has limited benefits as their own cost model will take it into consideration.

    Don't agree 100%

Sure they take it into account and will penalise to an extent, but certainly not to the extent of Steven who went from £180 to £500!

For instance, my policy only went up £50 after my claim.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm 27 & I've only had my licence for 2 years so I have 2 years no claims.

I paid £700 odd for the first year & last year I paid £400 odd by shopping around. I got my renewal pack through the post this week & they've quoted me £850! They're havin a laugh!

I've done all the comparison sites etc. & it look like the cheapest I'm going to get is around £650 :-(

Ok, so I did change my W reg Mazda Demio for a 53 plate Fiesta but they're the same insurance group so I don't understand why the price has gone up

GF is finding the same thing this year. Insurance last year was £380, cheapest quote this year on the same car is £450!

Has anyone tried Hastings Direct/ Essential, I am going with them this year.

Last year paid £600ish (been driving 6 years but only had my own insurance for 1), renewal came through for £815 with the Green Insurance company, went on a couple of comparison sites and got Hastings for £470ish, I had to ring them and double check but internet quote was right. That was after declaring a bump as a named driver, and only 1 years no claims in a high risk insurance area!!

    garbage456;6574995

have you gone to http://www.parkers.co.uk/insurance/#ig=0to compare the … have you gone to http://www.parkers.co.uk/insurance/#ig=0to compare the insurance group?

Thanks for that. I've just had a look and the Mazda I had before was a group 4 & my Fiesta (a 1.25 Finesse) is a group 3! That's even worse lol.

Oh & I've also moved to a better area, I now park my car on the drive instead of on the street and my Fiesta has an immobiliser whereas my Mazda didn't have anything.

Surely my insurance should have gone down then?!

Remember guys it's worth adding a named driver to the policy in a lot of cases. Even if it's possible they won't drive the car it does make it cheaper for some reason if a partner is added.

£150 on a Golf Tdi after cashback £50 Quidco and £70 cashback from Swinton.

How do you get two cashbacks? :?
