    Is Supermarket "competition" an illusion?

Not really another black ops thread btw,it just illustrates a point.

So,it looks like(despite all the rumours),that there really is no "price war" on black ops, neither was there one on fifa.

Is it possible that every major supermarket has independently decided not to do a £25 deal,or are they talking to each other? Have they all decided that with a big game, they really dont NEED to offer these deals?

Years ago I worked for an independent chain of record shops and remember the managers would phone the manager of hmv/virgin/tower etc every week and they would agree to undercut each other by a quid on each big release depending when their "turn" was-it was just an illusion of competition.

Doesnt it just seem strange that the 4 big supermarkets have all decided not to compete with each other on games anymore? Maybe its a bit more cosy between them all than they lead us to believe?

bit early to say isnt it?

I said there wouldn't be both times and the days of falling over themselves to outdo each other were over and no one believed me...............ha.......na na na na na.

    lol

Quite possibly. I think they'll be making a killing out of people on this still though, despite the high price "deals".

Expect FS boards full of unwanted MS Points. lol

only asda left to declare their price-surely if they were gonna do something spectacular it would be in todays paper for midnight openings?

ASDA won't come out at a silly price as they no there is no need plus they have secured lots of pre-orders so they won't do themselves out of money.

Its not that bad Barky, i was expecting a nice standalone price of between £25-£28 but there is still some decent offers.

Tesco 325 and points £42.50 which is available online for quidco.
Sainsburys £28 when you spend £30 instore.

Those aren't half bad offers when you think of it, i think people were spoiled last year.

Managed to grab a MOH from ebay for £20 and the guys sending it recorded, thats going straight to HMV with £7.99.

They may let you use that £5 against the normal game only version but they won't refund i'm afraid.

yes m8-the tesco isnt bad,and maybe the sainsburys, but my wider point is-did all FOUR major supermarkets just wake up one day and decide to stop doing the £25 deals all on their own? seems a bit coincidental when supposedly they are in competition and dont talk to each other about prices. Im sceptical

No doubt they talk to each other, thats a given.

I see what you are saying but i never understood why they did the standalone offers last year.

I still think someone should do a "buy black ops for £45 and get £20 voucher for instore use" deal.

From a business point of view.

I doubt very much they 'talk' to each other (illegal BTW). Its just a case of they monitor each others prices and price accordingly, hence sometimes they dont drop the price.

Remember Makro last year, £20, that's what I would have liked this year,

Mine arrived this morning from bestbuy
