    CHILDREN IN NEED

Just wondering does anyone know if Terry Wogan is receiving a fee again this year for presenting BBC Children In Need just like he did in 2007?

seems a fair price, good cause , crap telly

I thought he wasn't getting one anymore... I'm sure he said last year that he didn't realise he was getting paid! Whatever Terry!!

we stopped donating to Children in Need when we found out that the camera crew who went to these third world countries were still being paid their full wage. None of the crew done this free or for a reduced fee, and your talking a lot of money here.

Many of the airlines let the crew fly free or mega cheap.................you imagine what the cost must be then for these people to stay over and make these documentaries

These camera men probably still have mouths to feed.

They probably aint on as much as you would think they are.

Best of luck finding a charity to donate to that is run solely by volunteers.

The fact is that by hiring professionals more funds can be raised and can be directed towards the charity.

Try to imagine the outcome of the whole event being run by volunteers.

am not looking for a charity. I choose the charities I want to support. But thanks for your 'luck'............and also there are LOTS AND LOTS of charities run solely by volunteers

These crews going abroad are getting paid so much more than what I would imagine a lot of charities pay their staff - but then again its the bbc and I imagine perhaps a lot of it is being funded by the license payers.

There's plenty of decent celebs who will do it for free though. Lenny Henry a few years ago, Gabby Roslin and Tess Daly are all amongst those who have not requested payment for their services and none of whom are exactly "volunteer" amatuers like you might suggest. So move over "Sir" Terry if you're not happy doing the honourable thing for charity then there's tons more who will!

exactly!!!!!! and am sure if u add on to these celebs fees the salaries of the staff going abroad that it would all add up to a real hefty sum

These crews get a brilliant wage so its not like they are going to go hungry themselves

TBH if I was a camera operator and being paid a fortune to film sick hungry kids then NO WAY could I accept a payment for doing that job.

You may have missed my point, I was trying to illustrate that without the right professionals in place, the charity would actually benefit less.

I assume that as you expect the film crew to donate a couple of weeks wages to this cause, you will also be doing the same ?

So where did you find out that the crew were away filming for a couple of WEEKS???? it was 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I support cancer research by direct debit and also every weekend help out at a local sspca - and have done so for the past 5 years.

Please dont try get smart with me re giving to charity

I feel I have a very valid point re, the crew's salary as it must amount to huge amounts. add that all up and I am sure the amount would help a lot of children in need

Not trying to get smart at all, you are aware that both charaties you donate to have paid CEOs.

Just trying to illustrate the point that you expect a professional film crew to give up even 3 days wages, when you aren't willing to do the same yourself.

I believe that if the BBC have to carry this charity thing on, they should rotate the charity cause each year.

There are many causes that are in need of help.

sorry I missed your post when u said about your charity donations?????

and also, when have I went abroad on a charity mission for three days and charged for it??? so why do I need to give up three day of my salary for that.

When I do my charity work at the sspc I DONT CHARGE FOR IT. but still waiting to hear about your florence nightingale efforts

That's probably because I didn't post one, any worthy causes I donate to remain the business of myself, HM R&C, and the charity in question.

I certainly don't make donations in order to get my name on a wall somewhere, I make them in order to make a difference to the broader picture.

You've also missed my point. There are plenty of "right professionals" who have hosted Children In Need in recent years who have more than held their own.

I kind of get what you mean that in a way it can be more overly beneficial for a charity to pay a well known face to head their cause than an unknown member of the public BUT why when there is also a great deal of high profile celeb presenters who are willing to do the same job for free do they have to employ somebody who charges?

I wasn't referring to the celebs themselves, was referring to the behind the scene staff who are just doing their jobs, and bossyboots belittling comments towards them

I don't think it's right for celebrities to boost their profiles (net worth) while being paid for a charity event

And I'm sure there are plenty of other celebrities that would do it for free, and much better than Terry

All my posts relate to the fact that sadly the BS laws of economics apply even to charities, and most will benefit from having paid professionals involved with them

Keep in mind that most professionals involved in charities could be earning better money elsewhere, but choose to stay due to the difference they can make

It must be a nice feeling knowing that any increase in profit you can produce doesn't just make your shareholders happy, but actually makes a real difference

Celebs shouldn't be paid, normal staff should.

I think bossyboots has actually missed the point that children in need is a charity for UK children. The camera crew were hardly sunning themselves in Barbados.
