Is there a 'energy-efficient' Floodlight ?

Looking for a Floodlight for the garden but wonder if there are any 'energy-efficient' ones ?

If you are asking about a floodlight with an energy efficient bulb i was under the impression that these types of bulb cannot be used with sensors , dimmers or timers. So i would say no , but someone else might know a bit more.

Yes there are quite a few types out there, some like the sodium and metal halide ones are quite expensive (about £70 and up) but some are resonable (about £30 and up) and use similar bulbs to those you use inside.

Yep, if you buy the bulb type (rather than halogen) floodlights, you can buy regular dimmable bulbs like this one

I don't think it will. I'm sure these bulbs aren't made to be constantly switched on and off with a PIR. They take a short while to get up to full strength, in that time the power could have gone because of the PIR switching it off, along with the intruder.
I understand what you are looking for Edi, I have two 200 w PIR security lights and it's costing me a fortune in the winter. The other option is to change the bulbs to a 100 w one and see how you get on.

Thinking about it dinosteveus is right but remembering somethig i saw installed on site last year and a quick google I realised the answer may be LED floodlights.

Have you seen these in action? I've always found LED's to be naff.:-(

Only the ones that were being installed on the site I was the engineer on, so these were comercial grade and very bright (they were used to illuminate large road signs and some councils use them in street lighting now) .

I haven't seen the ones used in home lighting unfortunatley.
