Is there a way of adding music to an iPod with losing what's already on there?

A friend has asked me if I could add a few new albums to his iPod. He's already got about 20 albums on there but is there a way I can add more without deleting what's already on there?
I can't seem to sync the new stuff without iTunes telling me it'll remove the music it can't find on my laptop.

Use a third party program on the pc not iTunes, plenty out there and you don't need to sync and loose everything, I use copytrans manager, pro etc so easy
