Is there any way that I could cheat my schools printing system...?

We have a biometric printer system in school, and we have 'credits' for printing each week, and I needed to print off something for homework which is colour, now this will take up a huge part of my credit allowance and I just wondered if there was anyway I could cheat the system and fool it into thinking I'm only printing off black and white so it won't use all my credits? (I haven't thought of anything yet, but my schools just brought this restriction thing in last week)

MIght be nice if you explained how the credit system worked.

In all fairness to the OP ide be pretty annoyed aswell if i needed this for homework. surely the school can compromise on ink for this type of thing.

stop printing porn

Haven't you got a colour printer at home? Thought this would be a necessity for the modern student?

Make you font size 6 or below.

Make it smaller?

Or stick it on a USB, then when your teacher goes away stick it in his PC and print from there?

in this day and age you would think students wouldn't need to print things out any more with usb pens holding so much data and being so cheap, work should just be saved onto the usb pen drive and viewed byt he teachers from there and any comments put into a word document of it's own, could save a whole lotta trees if this was done.

You cannot underestimate the usefulness of paper reference. I much prefer to print something out, then annotate. This way the page does not look like a "wall" of text.
To the OP I would ask your teacher or someone within the school and I'm sure they may give you some more printer credits. I know from personal experience that most will make more available if you explain the situation.

What about if you want to mark homework work on the loo???

USB's are all well and good, but imagine receiving 32 of them and then having to mark work on them and then hand them back to the correct kid. Then multiply that by 10 (ish) for the number of classes. It's a nice system, but would quickly fall down. Would kids need 1 x usb for each teacher they need to hand in work for?

To the OP, we have a printer credit system at my school, and although I know of no specific way to fool it (ours only goes on 'pages' and doesn't pay attention to colour vs B&W).

I would say the simplest solution would be to go to the teacher concerned ahead of the deadline and ask them to print it for you. I'd have no issues at all in doing this for a student.

Hope this helps

If they are anything like the ones i've seen then all you need to do is pull the cable out of the back and put it into your laptop. Ones i seen used serial cables.

And just trying to read 30 plus pieces of work from a computer screen would be a killer. No substitute for paper when it comes to marking, and submitting work to exam boards. I often print work for my students.

Sure it would be annoying, but cheating is cheating isnt it. As a poster above has mentioned explaining to the teachers and get more credits or get them printed by teachers etc would be a better option imho.

Op, if you spent as much time doing work as you do trying to circumvent the IT systems you will do well!

My guess is he managed to find a way of circumventing the security system and now has a shed load of porn to print. It's just one hurdle after another; but like everything in life, the more you work for something, the sweeter the end result

Chat to one of your mates, then when they're not looking cut off their finger. Simple!

Would kids need 1 x usb for each teacher they need to hand in work for?To the OP, we have a printer credit system at my school, and although I know of no specific way to fool it (ours only goes on 'pages' and doesn't pay attention to colour vs B&W). I would say the simplest solution would be to go to the teacher concerned ahead of the deadline and ask them to print it for you. I'd have no issues at all in doing this for a student.Hope this helps

When I studied in the States, work was normally submitted online either on an Intranet or via a website called turnitin.com . The website also worked out how much of your work was plagiarised!

An ingenious idea you might think but unfortunetly the teachers would then print out everyone's work.

Sorry to go off topic. Back to the OP, I would do as the other posters advised and just if they mind you printing a few more pages. Better to do that than to go down down the circumventing the system route.

OP you can do this is you do it right. You place the paper in that is to be scanned as normal, but when you go to print, you have to keep the lid just over 2 inches ajar using a small stick & then the counter does not turn as the printer thinks it's closed & almost forgot, you have to keep the room light off when doing this.

Some schools don't allow USB's as they could have viruses etc on them

Turnitin is decent, but last I looked it was a paid for service, so it's not huge at the school level here.

As has been pointed out though it's still a deal of trouble organising yourself about marking the work online. There are a number of intranet solutions (called VLE's or MLE's) which sort that kind of thing out for you, but teachers can be luddites too!

I can't talk for the OP, but the printer in my room used to print about a ream a month of uncollected printouts. Printer credits are supposed to cut down on that kind of thing. They don't even charge for refills, its more to make the kids aware of it as a finite resource.

Only way around this is to direct print to it.
the local workstation connected to the printer will have a small service running on it that reports back all printing to a central server (normally the main print server for all the networked printers/mfd's)

So if you can unplug it then connect it to yours make sure you have the drivers and job done.

Be aware that bypassing the credit system will probably be a breach of the IT Regulations, and the potential punishment is a suspension from the schools IT Network

at my 6th form if you removed the card as soon as the printer received the print job it didn't deduct the amount from the card that was 11yrs ago they may have moved on since then.
