Is this a good deal for Sky+ HD?

I currently have normal Sky, ie, not even Sky+. There is an offer on the website, which is a free Sky+HD box. Installation is £60, and a tenner a month for HD subscription. All in all, it will be £180 for a new Sky+ HD box, and a years HD subscription.

Is this a good deal? Sounds like a pretty good one, considering a Freesat/Freeview HD recorder costs around the same as £180, and with this deal, I get the HD channels for a year as well. People are always telling me how good Sky+ is, so surely £180 is worth it?

No as Sky tend to give them away for nothing.

I got a sky+ HD box for free, free installation and no HD subs but I won't get the premium HD channels, just the basic ones like BBC, ITV etc. I could also have got the HD sub half price for 12 months had I wanted to take that up as well.
I phoned up twice to get this, the first chap wouldn't give me anything, the second was could not have been more helpful.

I'd push for a better deal if I was you.

yes this is a good deal

How long have you been with them?

I got it for £15 a year ago. (Well worth it btw)

Don't agree. I was offered the same for £60, or without the HD premium channels for free (which is what i went for and it's being installed tomorrow).
I am on the most basic sky package as well.

the new SKY+ boxes are the same as the SKY HD ones only difference is that you have to pay £10 for the HD channels

do not agree th the £60 installation fee, you sholud be able to get it installed for free. Not a good deal, got the hd installed for free and then run up and got all movies ,no hd just free hd and broadband for £36 a month

sickly sweet

Its amazing how well you scrub up at the weekend SS!

If you have just "normal" sky, presume you just have one cable from dish into the house? If you have two, then you don't need the installation.

I know. I look hot. It takes hours to get the make up looking so perfect.
The coat was my favourite HUKD purchase as well, everyone will be so jealous.

For the people who got it for free, were you doing the cancellation bluff? Ive heard loads of people getting it that way. Cant see Sky giving it to you for free/£15 if you just phone and ask them.

When I got mine I got free box, free installation, free HD pack and half price variety pack.

The deal you have been offered is not great imo

Again, was that because you threatened to cancel?

I said I was weighing up freest Vs sky and that my old box was not working properly (all true).
The first guy I spoke to was rubbish, I didn't get any offers, so I phoned back after putting the phone down and got offered the above.
Just call them until you are happy with what you have been offered, minimum being what I have received.

I got the same but with free variety pack, half price sports and movies and a free 3D telly.

probably late here, got the sky hd box 2 weeks ago with free install and 12 months 25% discount for signing up for 12 months again after going through to retentions and threaten to cancel.

Good news. Phoned up, went through to retentions, said I wanted to cancel, and got offered a free box, free install, and no HD subscription. Sweet! First time I phoned I just talked to the first person who answered, who said there was no offer he could give me. Phoned back straight away, then asked them to put me through to cancellations, and got the offer. Cheers guys.
