Is this CPU good value?

Dual Core E2200 2.2ghz 1mb cache £52 +delivery from lambatek

Or I can get a P4 3.0 for £35 off a mate. Is the Dual Core going to be much faster?

Are there any faster Intel socket 775 chips available for up to £60.

TIA.

Thanks for the scan link. The E6750 is a bit out of my price range as I have other parts to buy.

Just one more thing...

Is core 2 duo and dual core the same thing?

I think the main difference bewtenn Core 2 Duo & Pentium Dual Core is the amount of cache they have

Will both be compatible with my motherboard? It only has a core 2 duo compatible sticker.

What Motherboard Do You Have?

OK, think I've found out now - it does support dual core.

Think I will go for the scan one!

Yes it will take pentium dual core. You may need to update the bios though. I'll get the CPU support list up soon as the gigabyte site loads!

Scan also seem to have the cheapest Home Vista for £52.

I myself was looking at the mobo one up from yours, seems to have no end of connections (DVI, HDMI, VGA) lol

e2200 is a very good value for money cpu especially if you overclock it

This is totally wrong I think.

Of the Pentium Dual Core range the E2220 is the top of the list. The ones below it are E2200, E2180, E2160 and E2140.

intel.com/pro…htm

PC Pro magazine does a review this month (June 2008) of all the Intel and Athlon CPUs (not the E2220 as that has just come out).

The E2200 (what was the "top" Pentium Dual Core) performed better than the "low end" Core 2 Duos (E4300 and E4400), even though it was cheaper.

The magazine says of the Pentium Dual Core CPUs "Compared with the low-end Core 2 Duos they are a tempting value proposition".

For the money you have bought a good CPU.

Go for home premium over home basic.

The original pentium 4 was socket 478 so it wouldn't have fitted in your motherboard if your mate was offering you one of those.

not quite true, fraid there were at least four 3.0ghz p4 chips that weren't socket 478, but lga775 and used same boards as c2d
on a plus, the e2200 is the same architecture as the early c2d so should be a sweeter performer
