Is this desktop pc worth the money?

    Hi,

I've just order the following desktop computer for my son and was wondering if its worth the money i have paid?

    very.co.uk/zoo…prd

It was £849.99 before i applied the new customer 10% discount which brought it down to £764.99. I will also be getting £100 credited to the account in October as they are running a promotion where you get £100 back for spending over £450.00 on computer products.

All in all i will have paid a grand total of £664.99

I'm not afraid to build one myself but Very's interest free credit means i have one less present to worry about around Christmas time

Any advice would be appreciated, Cheers

seems a fair deal with the 10% off wouldn't call it a great deal personally though

Yes a pretty reasonable deal when you take into account the cost of the CPU and the GPU.

Should last a while and you can always upgrade the GPU later down the line if you need more grunt. CPU should last you a long while.

I like the case that's £120 right there.

The processor alone costs about £230 new! The PSU may warrant an upgrade though...

I had noticed that. Going off the picture it also come with an Z170 Pro4s Motherboard which appear to be around the £100 mark as well as a Thermaltake 3.0 cooler so the parts seem of a decent quality

Adding the parts from the picture and description i'm currently at over £875 and that doesn't include a PSU or or CPU cooler and have probably missed several other things.

I am assuming that the picture on the website isn't just a stock photo though and will include those parts so hopefully I'm not wrong

If that is the case it appears i may have got a good deal

Actually, why not buy it, take it apart keeping the processor, motherboard and the case, sell the rest on ebay or trade forums and put the money towards upgrades?

The picture also shows 4 sticks of RAM which is suppose to be 8GB, that is unlikely (_;)

Lol i had noticed that as well.

I'm hoping when the photo was taken the graphics card would have been one of the better ones they included along with the processor so it may have been one of their higher end machines, so the parts may still be the same or similar. The price now dropping with the new graphics cards that have recently been released.

It will be a long wait until the machine is delivered on Friday until i know for sure

I did notice that but i was hoping the better processor, SSD and nicer/ more expensive case made the one i ordered a slightly better deal in the long run. Plus i was assuming as i could see the make of motherboard etc in the picture then I knew what i was expecting. this may not turn out to be the way it turns out though.

I bought it for my son for Christmas as he is wanting a PC for his school work and some moderate gaming. He already has an Xbox One so through time he may cross over to more PC gaming by which time the newer cards may have dropped in price.

I realise this maybe overkill for what he needs right now but at least it should last him a few years without much swapping of parts for a price i had seen much lesser systems close to

It also shows a pic of a MSI GTX980ti Armor x2 GPU!

It's just a stock picture for this range.

Only time will tell. It is being delivered before the 02/09/2016. a quick look in the case will tell me everything. if the parts aren't very good then it will be returned

    CPU approx £285
    GPU approx £200
    Case approx £120

Which is £605 before either of the hard drives, fan, PSU, memory, motherboard etc and also a copy of Windows 10

Those prices are taken from pcpartpicker.com

I have done a search on "InWin 805 " and other sites are selling it, but all of them are more expensive.

However some others have a 980 graphics cards.

One review says there is no DVD drive or anywhere to fit one so if you need one you may need to buy a USB DVD drive.

Gaming will never benefit from the I7 over the I5, the only difference except a minor speed increase is hyperthreading which doesn't really give any benefit. And a 128GB SSD is about £30 these days, the much better graphics is worth the extra £50, either way it's an alright deal after your discounts.

Sorry, I've just seen this is a Christmas present, in that case it's a terrible buy unless you're giving him in now. You should never buy PC equipment months in advance, as it moves on so quickly and prices fall. You'll get better for less by Christmas, especially in Black Friday and Christmas deals.

I understand prices fall but do you really believe they will fall much more than this in the next 3 months or so?

If i was to buy the parts a bit at a time up until Christmas it would still turn out to be a similar price surely as with discounts and a promotion that expires in the 3 days time i am saving £185.00. I am also getting the benefit of 12 months interest free credit

I'm not too worried about a lack of DVD drive as i do already have an external USB drive in the back of a cupboard somewhere. To tell the truth i can't even remember the last time i put a disc in a PC or laptop so i should be ok with the lack of one built in.

i would be paying nearer double of the price of this with the similar system that comes with the GTX 980 but as my son is only 13 does he really need any better than the GTX 970 which by what i've ready is still a very capable card

Not for everyone I know but I have tried dekstops and gone back, I use a laptop hooked up via cable to my monitor with wireless keyboard and mouse, and much prefer this, can move with it and use elsewhere, with all my data
