Im just wondering if this graphics card is any good. I just want to be able to run the games I have without them stuttering on my current 8300gs.

Ideally it should be able to play halo 2 at a decent playable level.

Play Value Geforce 8600GT / 1GB / PCI Express X16 / Graphics Card

If this isnt good enough then could someone recommend me a card that will do what I want on a budget of about £60

pretty much sums it all up

actually get this

so much better. I dare say its twice as powerful as the one you stated.
though that said, i wouldnt trust the company...
EDIT: oops looks like out of stock. Sorry

Does the size of memory matter a lot?

NOT within the given price range . In this case, a speed of memory is much more important than amount of it. A relatively slow graphic card will not let you play in very high resolution anyway.

If you were going for something faster - I mean 8800gt,ATI 3850 etc - yes.

Amount of memory on a graphics card does not make much difference at all. As 7777777 said, the speed of memory is more important. But perhaps most important of all is the GPU (graphical processing unit) speed. Yes, graphics cards have processors too, and just like in the rest of your PC, it's no good having lots of memory if your processor isn't that fast.

I doubt you would notice much of a difference between a 8300GS and a 8600GT anyway, they're both GeForce 8 cards. And the 8300GS should be able to play Halo 2 very well - it's minimum requirement is an ATI X700 or Nvidia 6100 (and, incidentally, just as a comparison, the nvidia 7600 on my laptop can run Crysis smoothly when it's minimum requirement is a 6800).

What's the specification of the rest of your PC? Any chance it's holding you back?

It can do - once the memory gets full then the framerate drops off dramatically. Some cards obviously have too little memory and it shows up in benchmarks (the 9800GX2 for example) but with others you can't tell for a year or two. Memory use does depend on your resolution and with 1280x1024 you could probably get away with 256mb with a while - if a 512mb version of the same card is just a few pounds more expensive I'd definitely go for that though.

Um, what?

can reccomend 8800gt its 100 quid maybe more than you want to spend but will play all games with ease atm.
im playin age of conan on high with fps of like 60

I cant afford a 8800gt or I wouldnt have started this thread lol.

The rest of my pc is quite respectable I think.

The 8300gs is a poor card. It almost matches the one in my laptop. It cant play halo 2 very well.

So get one of these I suggested above.None of them is a speed demon ,however it will boost performance in games for as little as £40-50 :D.
Graphic card is not only about architecture, speed of memory but also about memory bandwidth, number of ROP,TMU,SP etc...In your case, it would be money well spent.

Option 2 :
If you can spend a bit more money , that card is really fast ]X/VISION 384MB GeF 8800GS PCI-E 2.0 HDMI Retail £75 delivered...or £68 collected in Glasgow .IMO- worth it

EDIT
]Great deal :
