or there is even the same item but different specs for £80 more:

    ● Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
    ● Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T8100 (2.1GHz)
    ● 4096 MB (2 x 2048 MB)
    ● 320 GB (2 x 160 GB) SATA Hard Disk Drive
    ● 20.1” WSXGA+ HD HP Ultra Brightview Widescreen Display
    ● Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer
    ● Bluetooth® wireless networking
    ● Intel® PRO/Wireless Network Connection
    ● TV Tuner DVB-T
    ● HP Pavilion WebCam with Integrated Microphone
    ● Integrated finger print reader

i think it's a good deal, but the fan might be a bit loud..

i'd just suggest getting a desktop pc because a laptop of that size isn't going to be very portable at all...

i think the 1st deals the best. although a HD DVD drive may be a bit redundant, all the other specs are much better. 1 500GB hard drive is by far better than 2 160GB hard drives

That thing isn't so much a laptop as a foldable desktop. At 23 inches and 7 kilograms I don't think you'll be having it on your lap much. What size is your laptop now? 15"?

For a laptop £800 for that spec looks reasonable, you could get a bit more with a desktop though.

17" and 4kg i think, but i am going to uni so will either need a real laptop which is powerful, this or a laptop and a desktop (for traveling between the 2)

Crickey - thats a massive laptop! Will help build up those muscles carrying it around!

For the price, I dont think its a good deal - and the premium is for the monitor size. The processor, RAM and HD spec is good, but it uses onboard graphics, which makes it poor for the overall price.

As mentioned, an HD-DVD drive is also a bad move to pay such a high price for.

    Just my 2 cents!

Are you looking at a different one than I am? I see it listed with an 8800M GTS which is probably equivelent to something like an 8600GTS/9600GSO/8800GS.

It sounds like you're not sure what you're going to be using the laptop for when you get to university? If you want an Ultraportable you could consider the eee 901 which comes out on the 1st of July.

Have you read any reviews on the HP? It just occured to me that the battery life is probably going to be abysmal on that, maybe one hour.

Ok at first i thought this will be amazing and can do anything i want it too... but then im thinking im gonna need to write notes with it in lectures so might need something a bit more portable and bit more battery power, So considering it this is amazing but probably aint what i need, though is what i want

I have looked at the eee 901 but i like powerful computers/laptops and that thing seems underpowered to me, doesnt need to be ultraportable, and i had read the reivew and it was basically a stupidly powerful laptop with a lack of battery life

So any portable laptops (in comparison to my heavy one now 3KG)

    Thanks for the help

How much are you looking to spend on a portable laptop?

You have a pretty decent Dell laptop ]here for just under £300. And you have an ultra portable Sony laptop ]here but for £1400.

It's more than powerful enough for anything you're likely to use a 9" screen for (including video) and a 4.5 hour battery life with wifi and full brightness is nothing to be sniffed at.

Do you plan to use the laptop for gaming? If so then you're looking at at least 15" and 2.5kg.
