    Is this possible?

I currently watch divx films on my tv through my xbox 360 but is it possible to buy a player that plays divx/avi files as a standalone?

I have seen dvd players with this capability but I was looking for somrthing that only allows you to plug in a usb pen/memeory cards and decodes the files and displays it on your tv. Have looked but cant seem to find something similar

Thanks mate but I was looking for something not only plays these files and not another dvd player though.

Thanks for your help though and welcome to HUKDs!!

]this looks like what your looking for

dealextreme.com/det…756 just put your films on any memory card and play through this

    What TV do you use?

The best option on a non HDTV is actually a modded Xbox1 with XBMC as this gives you an insane amount of control and can play almost anything. If you have a HDTV then an Xbox may struggle with upscaling and something like a ]Popcornhour A100 media tank would be a good idea as it has HDMI and can play 1080p HD video.

If you want the easiest option then some of the newer DVD players have a USB port on the front and can play Divx/Xvid (AVI types). The only drawback with these is they don't play 'all' the files as they can't be easily updated (though most TV stuff would be fine).

    I have:

    40" Sony HDTV
Self chipped/modded Xbox running media centre
    PopcornHour media Tank

On the bigger TV I found the Xbox struggled when set to HD so I now mainly use the Popcornhour.

I hard modded my first but soft modded the additional xboxes around my house (Splinter cell and usb style). I don't have an action replay but do have a little USB adapter that came with the chip but i use it to watch AVI's so I can't part with it.

under a tenner and gives you the option of connecting a usb stick. Your only issue will be getting hold of a USB stick that has been correctly formatted so an unmodded Xbox can read it. ]useful stuff

I agree. However you should modify then flash to NTSC - then you can enable HD output and it'll upscale DIVX to 1080i - I use this with my projector and it'll play from DVD/ HDD or over the network...

    Hope this helps

I run my XBMC with a component cable set to 720p (my TV supports 1080p) as I find the box can struggle if upscaling to it's maximum (1080i), mainly scenes with lots of detail and movement.

I hope the XBMC people build their own system (Xbox hardware is getting a bit old) as the HD file player I own is great at playing High Def episodes of Lost but the menu system is not as good as XBMC.
