    Isle of Man Day Trip

Hi we're off to the Isle of Man on Tuesday for a Day Trip setting sail from my home town Fleetwood. They run 2 trips a year with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. We get to spend approx 7-8 hrs on the island.

I'm looking for suggestions on what to do while we are there as I'm not familiar with the place and haven't been since I was about 10 years old. Thanks - Rep left for everyone that leaves a good idea.

Thanks for the sarcastic response. I have been on that site already. What I was actually hoping for was recommendations based on peoples previous experiences. Thanks to the 1st 2 posts which provided some suggestions. I especially like the pub idea!!

Funny how people read in to things differently. I read it like he/she was trying to teach me to suck eggs!! I.e. insert "Isle of Man" in Google. And using the words "A simple search"

Only he didnt say the word "simple". You just put it in there.

I think an apology to the poster is in line here to be honest.

I live on the Isle of man, what sort of things are you into?

There are plenty of places to vist, you could get on the electric tram and go to the top of snafell, from there on a good day you can see england, scotland and ireland

Hi - Thanks for the post. I've been looking at the Electric Railway and Tram up to Snafell. Do you think we will have enough time to do this on the day. What's the easiest way to do this? When I looked on the IOM site it said you can catch the train from Douglas to Laxey and then the tram up to the top of Snafell. Is the train station close to the ferry landing?

We also liked the sound of visiting Port Erin and CastleTown.

Quite in to the scenic side of life so anywhere that has good views, a nice place to eat lunch and maybe a good pub for some traditional ale...

    Thanks for your help

You would have time to do the trip to snafell, the tram leaves from the other end of douglas promenade to where the boat terminal is, 5 minutes in a taxi or a good half hour walk if you are feeling fit

You then get off at laxey, where there are a few pubs where you could have lunch and a few beers.

The tram then takes you to snafell from laxey.

I don't think you would be able to go down south to castletown and port erin as aswell though, so another option is to get the steam train form douglas to port erin castle town, again there are planty of pubs down that way to get lunch and a few drinks, you could then also vist castle rushen: gov.im/MNH…en/

Another place to vist while down port erin way would be The sound, which has it's own visitors centre and cafe gov.im/mnh…xml

YOu can find out all the times of the trians.trmans etc here: iombusandrail.info/

The MER (which is to get you to laxey) is this one iombusandrail.info/mer…tml

And the steam train to get down to port erin/castletown is this one iombusandrail.info/imr…tml

    hope this helps
